Default possible to only show trackmeters for channels 3+4 ?

The question is about this thread

http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=124847

where James HE made an amazing RMS track meter plugin.

The only problem (for me) though, I can hardly cope with multi-channel metering (peak and RMS at the same time as shown in the gif in that thread), it's kinda confusing me.

So question is, can a mixer panel layout be Waltered to ONLY show meters for channels 3+4, so it would only show RMS level ?

It depends on your theme and it's images.
You can shift the meter to the left when your track has more than two channels to 'hide' channels 1+2. The meter will be partly out of the boundaries of the mcp (and this may look ugly, but with some clever meter background coloring this may become usable).

Example:

set mcp.meter tracknch>2 [-25 5 50 300 0 0 0 1] [0 5 25 300 0 0 0 1]

...another thing comes to my mind.
I think you can also use meter overlay images (e.g. meter_ol_v) and make one half transparent and one half full colored to hide channels 1+2.

Thanks witti.

Yay, this works in principle, cool. Wouldn't have thought of shifting the meters. However it's still a bit "unopolished".
Track 1 is both peak + RMS, track 2 is RMS (ch. 3+4) only with your code line pasted in (I'm using the v4 default theme).

It doesn't have to look perfectly nice for me, but any chance to get this working at least without not obscuring vol and pan sliders (and same height as default meters) than I'd be really happy.

As I'm not a themer (and have little knowledge regarding graphics stuff in general), before I now start a long-winded trial and error session, any suggestion for improvement ?

I think you can do what you want, it will always only be a hack... It would require a complete redesign of a layout to get it usable. I would help, but i'm not using the default theme and it's just too much work. It's not only the code, but you also have to make quite some changes to some images...But i wish you good luck with it !

That's what I almost suspected.

Thanks for your help anyway.

nice workaround

but I think this should be addressed by Cockos and be supported natively without having to route to those new channels and do all this hacks... Maybe in 5 to 10 years... or maybe in 1 week... Maybe never. Nobody knows...

Ok, figured out a hacky version, not pretty at all, but works for me basically.

Thanks again for the idea, witti.

Yeah, no question about that.
But until the time comes, we need to help ourselves with workarounds.
