Default Thanks Justin...and a question about Reaper...

Thank you Justin for this forum. I appreciate it very much. Now I have a question. I am going to be recording a metal band soon, but I've never recorded metal and I've only recorded one band with Reaper. I don't know how to record a metal band to be hoenst, so I could use some feedback on that. Thanks.

I can record ten things at once currently. I don't know much about the band to be honest. They just called me once and said that they were interested.

Is this a "live" recording (all musicians playing at once), or will you be layering tracks an instrument (or two) at a time?

Ten inputs may be stretching the limits for micing the drumkit, as most metal bands I've either been in or recorded have drummers with BIG kits ...compensating for somethingoranother, I guess.

you can put dummymics on many toms and just good overheads recording them but you need them on the lower toms.

I'll just do four mic's on the drums. That's all I can do currently. I guess I'll have to invest in some mic's once I start making money doing this...if I ever do:-)

I assume stereo overheads plus kick and snare? What are the actual mics though, especially for the kick?

You should be able to get a pretty good sound from that assuming the drums sound good, the toms might be a little less punchy that's all, and you'll need to add some verb for a room sound.

I will have to do the band in pieces if at all. I am learning that musicians who want to get recorded are flaky as hell for the most part.

I may of made a mistake by offering to record people for free. The vast majority of people who have called just simply do not follow through at all. It truly is amazing to be honest with you. Oh well.
