Default How to Disallow MIDI Keyboard Changing Reaper Settings

Hi,

Where do I find a setting for turning off a MIDI keyboard changing Reaper settings?

Problem: when using my MIDI keyboard (Alesis Q25) I am getting sounds from the selected plugin but then I hit a key and the mode switches to changing settings in Reaper rather than playing sounds from the plugin. I don't know which specific key I'm hitting that causes this, but it sure is annoying.

I've looked around in Reaper Preferences for a way to uncheck/turn off MIDI keyboard control of Reaper settings but have not been successful.

I would greatly appreciate some help with this.

Thank you.

It sounds like you have at least 2 things happening
1) the midi input from your keyboard is set to Enabled+Control
2) one or more keys is mapped to actions that change settings

Easiest fix is to disable Control mode for the keyboard in Reaper Preferences->Midi devices

Hi Philbo,

Thank you for the info!

I'm away from home until the weekend. I will post back what my results are.

Unfortunately that did not resolve the issue. No matter which plugin I choose to use - Shreddage, Kontakt, Player6, Miroslav Orchestra - eventually the keyboard goes into the mode of changing REAPER settings and then the plugin is no longer accessible.

Buggy?

Further suggestions?

Thank you.

Exactly which settings are being changed?

I think I've discovered it's the A1 key that flips the switch from VSTi to Reaper settings.

In any case, once in the mode of controlling Reaper settings, the things I see being changed are tempo, time signature, the beat/time bar switching back-n-forth, the editor expanding and collapsing, and other such things.

I myself have never set up key mappings because I simply want to use a keyboard as a keyboard and not a controller.

Where do I find key mappings? I'd like to turn it off.

Thank you.

Open the Actions window (hotkey is '?').
Click or doubleclick on the leftmost columun header to sort by hotkey & midi command. You should be able to see & change every action that's mapped to a midi control message.

Hi Philbo,

I opened the Actions screen as you directed. Nothing is tied to midi commands, only keyboard keys.

Oh well.

Thank you for your help.

Weird.... Elephino.
Maybe do a portable Reaper install and see if the problem persists.

I don't really want to change my DAW from REAPER, but I have found that in Logic Pro X I am not having the same issues with using my midi keyboard. I can simply plug it in and use it with any of the same plugins I've used in REAPER and all goes well.
