Default ASIO vs DirectSound

Hey guys. Can somebody tell me, why reaper starts to stutter (Audio+GUI), when I reach a certain size of a Project (many track + many plugins). I use a SPL Creon as interface and run it on max buffer. My PC (win 10 pro) has a new i7 + 32 GB ram

Performace meter is about 30 % on CPU and RAM.
Screenshot is attached. It says 400 plugins, but at least half of them are disabled volume-trim plugins.
I have no Problems with directsound driver

Your CPU is not fast enough?
Check that Anticipative FX processing is enabled in Preferences. And maybe you can increase the render ahead value.

Click "view -> Performance Meter" give us a screenshot of that.

Do you have multi-core CPU enabled in settings?

Are you using native ASIO, or ASIO4ALL?

Have you tried different ASIO buffer settings in reaper?

I frequently saee people on here complaining that enlarging the ASIO buffer beyond a certain size creates just your sort of problem.
If I were you I would try starting at 512 and seing if it is better or worse...
And of course the one perennial thing that nobody has yet mentioned. Download and run resplendence.com`s latency monitor and see what it says about your computer.
Could be as daft as you have power throttling or something like that enabled.
Also try temporarily disabling any anti malware software you are running.

i7 + 32GB RAM - well, certainly nothing wrong with the hardware...
Frankly, I'd only be using ASIO if it's a specific bang up to date version tailored to an audio interface (A4A served its purpose for a while but is now pretty much unnecessary).
WASAPI is fine these days. What's the problem with using that?
