"Hun"? Is there something between you two we need to know about?

Note to self - stop trying to squish Tallisman's avatar.

I admit... i am stuck in '96 that was before hip-hop started to suck. Did you listen to the fire at the end of that link?

I've probably had the most fun with synth1 and v-station. They are so easy to use but can make such great sounds

They're the only two soft synths I really understood completely and could create sounds with quickly.

If I have to narrow it down to one single plug-in that neither of the hosts that I use included for free:
NI Kontakt

Otherwise, it would be hard to live without EQ/Compression/Reverb. I don't know how I'd choose.

I'd probably gravitate towards some all-in-one plug-in like Ozone or similar, if there could be only one, except that I normally don't go that route.

Default Good question

I don't know if it's the "best" per se, but I've been using UBK-1 a whoooooole lot since I bought it. It finds its way on to a lot of tracks now. Unfortunately, if you're on PC (like I am half the time), your only option for using it is Pro Tools. Win VST should be along shortly, according to the company website.

Heard a lot about SampleTank and this thread finally got me to check out the video. Seems quite cool; may download the demo later tonight. My question, with all due respect to ObiK, is why do the video demos look like they were shot with a 2002 Nokia cell phone?

No need to download the demo, we have SampleTank FREE available which is full featured with 1 gb of samples.

Speaking of demos,

How does Sampletank Free compare to Yellowtools Free?

I use yellowtools free, and my workflow involves constantly changing my mind about what computer i want to be using, i'm hesitant to stretch my head around too many sampler programs.

Long time user of Sampletank and I have to honestly say to avoid it right now, It is so horridly out of date, navigating presets is probably the most annoying thing anybody can do in any VST plugin available right now. (You can wrap it in a 3rd party wrapper to allow scrolling with a mouse wheel, which is some consolation i guess)
It is a shame how IK have left such a great idea of a plugin fall into outdated disaaray
More money to be made in iPhad apps, so they can't really be blamed

We are constantly working on the new SampleTank 3. Every single day and we have been for YEARS and you can see some of the progress on our Facebook. When it is ready for release it will satisfy all your wants in a modern sampler/workstation and then some. SampleTank for iPad actually takes features and sounds directly from SampleTank 3. That just shows our dedication to amazing sound quality and features on BOTH our Mac/PC versions and our iOS apps. We are still working on SampleTank 3 and when its ready we'll give you more details and an ETA.

Besides, SampleTank 2 is still an awesome sounding workstation and SampleTank FREE is an awesome addition to any DAW with AmpliTube FREE.

I can't really justify it, but.....

Lol, trust me it'll be well worth the wait when it is ready. We are CONSTANTLY working on it.

At $99 for the cross grade its a ridiculous price. Honestly, I was surprised we went that low!

I'm with you...I really don't NEED anything else (I have the shell,classic eq,Black76,White2A,and the 670) but it's such a good deal...and I have a few urgent bills to pay...but it's such a good deal...I don't actually NEED it...but...

P.S. I would definitely spring for an upgrade to Sampletank 3(x64)

It really is a good deal, especially if you compare to the hardware equivalent! Only a few days left to get world class mix tools for so little!

I'm assuming that you were talking to gpunk here. My question is, were you basing that statement solely on what he said about the presets, if not how do you know what all his wants are? In other words whats new?

How does it show "dedication to amazing sound quality and features"? Its simply sharing/using features of the same program on different OS's.. So how does that show what you claim? What am I missing.. Can you please elaborate...

Thanks

I'll show you what I mean when its ready to be released. We have been listening and listing customers wishes and feature request for SampleTank for a while now. You'll be surprised with it when its ready. The mere fact we have people working on it daily for years now should show you how huge of a project SampleTank 3 is for IK.

Nope Pipe it is yet another silly closed format anyway

@Obik
I know it is your job to try and make IK look good but when it comes to Sampletank lets just not go there shall we, It is extremely out of date and you saying we are working on it is kind of like me saying "I have been working on the perfect piece of music for the past three years" it doesn't actually mean anything whatsoever, IK reps have been saying this for well over a year now and all we see is an Amplitube that has added a "Store" and IOS apps, oh and constant corssgrade/Group buy deals.

Now i am not saying that IK are not working on ST3 but from the outside looking in it is plain to see that ST3 is not of great importance and the reality is that it may well be too late for ST now anyway
So like i said lets just not go there.

I am excited about the high quality " Studio Reverb " part.
Studio Reverbs alway sound better than the expensive emulations of an emulation.

Mentioning sampleTank in a best plugins thread is an oxymoron.

Because you are on the outside looking in you only see what we show, but internally SampleTank 3 is a BIG deal to all of us. It takes YEARS to build what we are building with SampleTank 3 and when it does come you will remember my words.

I didn't even bring it up, Dannii did. But I'm sure the same could be said of others about your plugs. To each their own. Music is about creating and expressing. Which ever tools they choose to use to do that, more power to them.

Yep I will remember your words, because they are complete rubbish, unless you have pretty much zero development happening on ST3, there is no way in hell it takes YEARS to build any plugin, OK if you release a complete Kontakt replacement with an open format and full scripting and UIing, yeah I may take my words back, we both know that isn't going to happen so YEARs, erm no (It really is pointless coming with ad speak in a forum full of devs and extremely clever people - this forum)

ya, because i'm sure you, who doesn't make plugins, nor work for a company that makes plugins, nor knows anything about what sampletank 3 is going to be, must know better than the guy that works for the company, how many years it's been in development.

i would imagine that simply making the samples could easily take years.

not just the recording of them specifically, but say you wanted to get a rare piano, maybe this one http://images.businessweek.com/ss/10...gs_sold/15.htm and you wanted to have it recorded in a specific room, with a long waiting list, then just that in itself might be a long wait. then you don't know, maybe they also recorded a bunch of convolution reverbs for that space, and for the piano itself within that space. and then maybe that same piano in a separate place, i mean i know that kind of is moot due to the way convolution reverb works, but maybe they would be doing convolution reverb for the actual body, of the piano, and were picky as to what room that body was in. incredibly unlikely, but the point is, you don't know what they decided to do for sampletank 3.

i mean you have no idea what sampletank might be. they, experts in the field knowing exactly what is and what is not at their disposal with people trying to think out of the box, knowing how sample plugins work, and thinking of new innovative ways to use that technology may actually come up with something you've never heard or thought about before.

maybe you should try and be more modest. that guy, if i am not mistaken, WORKS FOR IK MULTIMEDIA, he works there. he gets the information from them. he probably knows quite a bit about what sampletank 3 will be, and knows how long it has been in development for. and honestly, what a stupid thing to lie about. nobody will buy a plugin because of how long it took somebody to make. but probably it took long to make because of the detail it has or because of some features. "it took 3 years to make" not a strong selling point. "it has such and such" "holy shit that must have taken them forever to make" "ya, 3 years" that's a selling point.

but development also begins in the brainstorm phase.

do i know what sampletank 3 will be? no. do i know whether or not i will think it was worth taking 3 years to make? no. do i know i will want it when i see it? no. do i know the guy that works at sampletank will obviously make his product seem good? yes. maybe i won't find it awesome. but in all likelihood they did something that took 3 years to make because it takes 3 years to make, and it will be unique in terms of samplers in some respect, partially due to the fact that it took 3 years to make, or a long time at any rate, and it will likely be an overhaul of older version while potentially remaining compatible with older model samples. but i don't think ik multimedia is in the business of wasting years making software for no reason. if they could release what will be sampletank 3 sooner, they would have done so. and they're not wasting time not working on sampletank 3. so it took them that long to make. good stuff takes long to make.

maybe you won't care for sampletank 3. but to me, you do look stupid when you act like you know a bunch of stuff you have no idea about.

sampletank 3 is not out yet, and their advertising guy can't tell us anything about it yet. so it's probably still a while to be released even.

i gotta say i get so irritated with cocky know it all attitudes and rudeness to people.

what if they made convolution reverb in the most heavily booked rooms around the world? how long does it take to record lush sets of convolution reverb at many distances in full 7.1 and fly all your equipment to all those places?

you know nothing of what sampletank 3 will be, and therefore know nothing of how long it is supposed to take to make.

me, i trust the guy that works there, because i don't think ik multimedia will want him telling us stuff that will make sampletank 3 look bad, like some mediocre sampler that should never take 3 years to make. ik multimedia doesn't want to look stupid. their add campain is telling us it took 3 years to make. they want. "holy that's awesome, no wonder it took 3 years" not "it took them 3 years to make this?"

they are careful about what it is we know. and we now know it took 3 years to make. that is not an accident. it is not an accident their employee learned that information and gave it to us.

you looked stupid because you were trying to look too smart. i love the irony of that.
