Default PT wALTERED

EDITED: UPDATED 14/2/2011 https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/694/PT9wALTERED.zip

A sneak preview ..... Walter is the absolute dogs bollocks
Screenshots are in the above link.

The master fader needs some serious work, especially the thin mixers .... a couple of other things are still buggin me.

I want the master fader to look the same as a standard mcp (no rms) and i cant get it to fall into line no matter where i shift the friggin thing around (both in GIMP and in rtconfig) and its bugging the shit out of me.

This theme has taken some elements from RADO, Flatter, a version of Reamarc and just about every PT theme in the stash.
It also contains a ton of tweaks/key commands by AdamWathan, and i pretty much used the PTColorset from the stash.
EDIT: It also contains cursors by Shan, the color toolbar by EvilDragon (which im gonna tweak to the PTcolorset sws file soon), and icons from Evans Notation set which i need to tweak further.
Enjoy

If anyone can help make this "emulation" more authentic or just plain better in any way, by way of suggestion or by uploading corrected pngs/code, that would be great.

--Caveat #1--
A truckload of functionality has been removed.
If you really really need the phase button back but the name WALTER strikes fear in your heart, post here and ill put it back for you

--Caveat #2--
You will need the kb and menu .ini files in your reaper directory if you want those exact screenshots to come out for you on your rig.
Ill make a ReaperPrefsSet or whatever its called soon

--Caveat #3--
The panners are backward. Please help

--Caveat #4--
The tcp_namebg is actually printed on the tcp background itself (to enable it to light up the correct colour on selection), and thus will collapse if the track is vertically shrunken to its smallest size. It should behave perfectly at all other sizes, just not at 100% vertically narrowed.
Can i fix this?

If anyone can tell me how to define/set a given expression, but use a different icon for it, im all eyes/ears.
I want different icons for track_env in the tcp and mcp, and it seems i can only point tcp.env and mcp.env to the same icon (track_env).
Can i fix this?
why wont mcp_env and tcp_env work? what am i doing wrong?

Dude! That looks amazing! Amazing! That's really really cool. Edit groups and playlists and I might die! I would say keep the phase button and fit it in somewhere nice.

I know there's no specific 'rule' forbidding it, but could uploading a theme to the stash be seen as announcing the Alpha version outside the pre-release forum?

What does the Bus button do? Theres no output dropdown in Reaper so I'm curious about what function that serves... Looks nice though! The programs work very differently though so copying the exact GUI probably won't work.

looks really good.

Something like this could really help any potential PT users who jump ship for REAPER 4

This is what I mean, it sure looks neat but it's impossible that it actually works :/

Hmmm... why wouldn't a graphic knob be able to transfer the same data as a single left/right slider? Maybe I'm missing something obvious.

If there was support for knobs on Reaper's panners that wouldn't be a problem of course, but there isn't as of yet. And there is no indication that this will change in the near future.

Which doesn't mean it won't change, just nobody but the devs know about it.

The "knobs" in that theme move left/right instead of turn (and do that backwards), that's why I asked whether he was joking
I was trying it because I thought he has found a secret "show pan knob" function in WALTER.

Fader has a single image, but a rotating knob would need many.

Not necessarily, it would just need to rotate the one image?

I just tried it... .... yeah, that's funny the way the knob slides around. Actually, that entire theme doesn't display right here for me.

One rotating image would be enough. Reaper's send and parameter control knobs are handled as one "still" background and one rotating thumb image.
I'd love knobs for the pans... just as much as I'd love faders and buttons as an option for the track controls . I'm quite a lover, am I not?

EDIT: But I don't think we will get them now, as they'd probably have added it early on in the alpha so the theme dream team can have at it from the start.

We already have knobs/rotors for track fx parameters and send indicators so surely the devs can (at somepoint) add it for the pan controls NOT that I want it for the main pan controls but I like the mock that's floating around where you have a left and right pan knob and then a balance slider below it.

The "bus" button is the sends/recieves button.
If the track is sent through to the master, it will display master, and if the path goes via a bus/send first, it will display "bus"
My only other option was to reuse the "In 1-2" and "Out 1-2" icons, which are already being used directly above it for recording input mode.
I cant use "Bus 1-2 or "Bus x-x" like in PT, because the icon wont dynamically change the bus numbers, if you follow my drift.
So i was left with just "Master" and "Bus".
I would love a suggestion as to how to make this "better"

i deviated here a little, because i need to quickly see if a track is going straight to master or if it is bussed, so i knocked that up.

The pan knob is a slider ..... its purely cosmetic.

To get the main toolbar to go blank (and reveal the faux PT "rulers") you gotta assign one action to it (i used no op) and assign the transparent toolbar icon i provided in the theme.

Thanks WT - a license purchase is imminent .... reaper has given me soooo much.

Yes but WALTER could theoretically specify whether to use a fader or knob and what images to use, so that wouldn't matter. If there's enough noise on this topic the devs might think about implementing it. I can't think of any reason why anything that can be represented by a fader couldn't easily be represented by a knob. I'm a fader man myself though.

jesus christ thats terrible!

load the included MenuSet .... soon i'll upload a zip containing my entire REAPER ProgramFiles and AppData folders, as well as a ReaperPrefsSet file.

That should ensure that you got what you see in the screenshots (what i have here)

Has anyone else successfully got this WALTERED theme to work for them, as per my screenshots?
Does the MenuSet file set up the floating toolbar correctly?

let me know

EDIT: I never use the dock and i always have the panners at the top, so some things havent been defined in Walter for docked and non panflipped states.
To help get closer to the screenshots, --PUT YOUR PAN ON TOP AND UNDOCK THE MIXER AND TRANSPORT--

Amen to that !

Im pretty sure its the undocked/panner at top issue.
Set those and it should play ball.

Ill define docked and non panflipped states over the next day or so.

'pan at top' sorts the mixer out here. cheers..

the pan slider/knobs go the opposite direction than they should btw..
not that it matters as the actual pan percentage is always displayed in the bottom green digitl readout bit.

am sure it will flower into a beauty.

The small black "RecIn" on the far right of the tcp in that pic shouldnt be there, and you can see my hacky first attempt to shift it out of sight.

setting Line 42 of the rtconfig from this:

set tcp.recmode h>=66 [299 47 1 1 0 0 0 0] [0]

to this

; set tcp.recmode h>=66 [299 47 1 1 0 0 0 0] [0]

....does the job much more effectively

Thanks man

Ive done a ton of fixes, basically ive managed to fix everything (defined docked and non panflipped states, cleaned up the master fader meter etc etc)

... but i cannot put the panners back to normal.

Its totally killing me

Is walter even capable of reversing them like this? Its just bizarre.

Once i finally fix this i'll upload the completed version.

Alright ...... its done

https://stash.reaper.fm/theme/669/PT9%20wALTERED.rar

*Panners fixed - they still need to be on top though, as per PT
*All meters fixed and tidied up
*All docked states defined .... you can dock and undock whatever you please and it will look correct
*new AUX and INSTRUMENT layouts for mcp and tcp. These are looking GOOD
*multiple Layouts for mcp, tcp and transport.
*EDs toolbar has been shopped with Shans 16 color palette images from the Reaper vs Pro Tools Editing thread (thank you ED and Shan) ... i also used these images to create an SWS ColorSet for this new PT toolbar
*I also used Shans toolbar.bg image he created on the aformentioned thread, because it simply looked way better than mine. Again, thank you Shan.
*mcp fx parameters ... now has same knobs as PT panners
*tcp labels - scaling at the smallest vertical setting - fixed
* PT style toolbar1 - updated in the menuset. now includes most of AdamWathans PT keycommands mirrored word for word, menu by menu, to the PT Menus. This menuset mirrors PT almost exactly.
*Just about every png has been tweaked and cleaned up
* LOTS MORE

New screenshots coming
Enjoy

....If i ever see the splashscreen from GIMP again, i think i'm going to vomit ....

Thanks for all your work on this! One question. Is there a way to make this one of the nice tidy Reaper Theme Zip files so files dont have to be strewn out all over?

Does this have the phase MCP buttons? If not, could you add them in a different folder for those who want them? (I ask for this coz you mentioned you could add them earlier in the thread).

This looks GREAT. Thank you!

They are in the folder ......

go to Line 121 in the rtconfig. It starts like this

; set mcp.phase !mcp_panflip ......

and replace Line 121 with this one

set mcp.phase !mcp_panflip [50 109 20 20 0 0 0 0] [50 109 20 20 0 0 0 0]

This will pop them right next to the record arm button.
Its a bit squished in but its there if you need it.
Ill try and make some room for it, and create an alternate rtconfig for you.

Let me know if it wont show up properly.
