Midi Devices Recognition in new Reaper Versions.
Hello Everyone!
First of all I must say that I'm conservative about updating working software versions, so I jumped from v. 5.8 to the last 5.965. I don't know "where" the behaviour i'm going to describe appeared. Mac user here.
Something changed in the MIDI device recognition during Reaper Startup. In every version I worked with, Reaper looked for connected midi devices during the startup, if they were not connected, it flagged them as "Not present", and forgot about them. Easy. But if you had something connected and then <during the session> you disconnected it, as soon as you played the project, Reaper complained about it: fair enough and very logic.
Now it's not the case anymore, for some reason it doesn't flag not connected MIDI devices as "not present" (but as !!!N/A) so it complains every time i hit the "play" button, which is a little pain in the ass.
I'm a MAX/MSP user. MAX comes with a virtual MIDI driver; Now if MAX is not open before I open Reaper, Reaper complains about "from MAX 1/2" devices not being connected. Every time.
I have an additional MIDI USB Hub, if I don't connect it, Reaper complains about it. But I don't need it every day and I really don't want to configure it everytime I connect it.
Of course I can flag "do not show this message again" but it made a lot of sense to be warned if something happened to my midi devices <during> the session (accidental disconnection for example).
Am I missing something? Is there somewhere an option like "Forget about not connected MIDI devices during this session" and I am not finding it?
As a sidenote: in the MIDI device list appeared A LOT of MIDI devices (physical or virtual). Basically every soundcard with midi ports I ever connected to this computer. Why?
And what about the Device ID? Should I care about it?
Thank you very much for your support,
SL
