Is there a way to reduce the space between line in text icons?

I have noticed this before. In the actual .reapertheme file, although it seems like there is nothing to control the 'leading', I am thinking that it is part of the long number sequence setting for one of the toolbar related headings. The only reason I say this is because I noticed this behavior in a theme once, and without changing anything else but pasting the text from another .reapertheme file over all the text in the .reapertheme of the theme with the squashed tb icon text, it fixed it. Note that when I say I replaced all the text, I obviously didn't change pertinent theme specific stuff like theme name and image folder location, etc. Also, it goes without saying that with everything that was changed the resulting theme was not to useable, but the tb icon text leading was fixed.
Maybe someone could reproduce this anomaly and comment....it would be a great *(bug) to pin down.
Alternately, you could just go into theme tweaker and change the WALTER font setting controlling the toolbar icon and mess around with several different fonts until you find one that works, because every font has it's own footprint, though there should not be a huge difference between fonts, but one will work.
Just giving I guess a wordy 'bump' to this since I have seen no answer.

*(I am sure it's not really a bug, text leading control is a natural feature of the OS.)

Happy DAW'ing

Hey Never, thanks for the reply!
I did some tests on my own and i've come to the conclusion that it has little to do with the font it self. It's mainly the way Reaper aligns text in buttons. Reaper is "instructing" the first row to Top vertical alignment and the second row of text to Bottom vertical alignment.
Anyone can test this by reducing the vertical size of a button.
I think that it would be much better if the text was aligned to Center, both vertically and horizontally.

Actually, whatever may be the case with the alignment, I have found a solution
to your problem. I went into theme tweaker on a theme with a very obvious,
very serious instance of this anomaly, and I went to the heading:
'Volume/pan label font', and opened the dialog. The font was set to 12pts.
I changed it to 8, being the smallest the drop down box allowed, but
there was still a bit of overlap, so in the edit box where the number 8
was, I manually typed 7, hit enter, and lo and behold the problem was fixed.
nothing else in the theme was hurt by this action because nothing else that
required a large font was using the Volume/pan label font.
Even if there were other elements using that particular font, there are 8
more slots that no theme uses all of (in my experience), hence, you
could always edit RTconfig.txt and change fonts around accordingly.
This phenomena being resolved by settings in the theme tweaker supports
my one-time experience of fixing it by pasting over settings in the
.reapertheme file. Thanks for bringing this to the forum's attention,
and it is something that I have wondered about, but never had a dyer need
to try to remedy until now. I'm sure others already know of this fix,
but I think it may still help others. Below is the fix in progress.

I did some digging after your last post. The workaround is to find a *condensed* font that fits the button size *and* the volume/pan label.
Not at all the optimal solution though :/

Good deal. Just so were clear though a condensed font...every one I have seen,
has adjusted kerning so that the letters are closer together horizontally,
just like an extended font has adjusted kerning so that the letters are
further apart. What makes lines of text closer or further together or apart
is leading.

Kerning: a b c d e f <space between letters

Tracking: abcd efgh ijkl <space between groups of letters

Leading:
Quick red fox
_______________<space between lines
Lazy brown dog

Anyhow, some good info here.

Default Line Spacing in Text Buttons

@Vampire TNA
THANK YOU for asking the question.

@Never
THANK YOU for supplying the answer.

Reducing the font size from 8 to 7 cleared up the vertical spacing issue.
Changing the font from the theme default of Clear Sans Regular -to- Verdana Bold 7 has helped my tired old eyes.

Again, Thank You both.
