Default Windows 11 echo problem

I have a Yoga 6 laptop and cannot record with Reaper as there is a bad echo . There are various fixes on the web and I have tried them all I think. Hoping for some uptodate advice. Same problem with or without USB mic.

How are you monitoring? Headphones / studio monitors?

Just using laptops sound or headphones. makes no difference. as soon as i arm a track it starts recording and playing back through headphones without pressing record button

So detail the fixes you have specifically tried.

What are you recording and how are you recording it when not using the usb mic?

No echo on playback only; just when recording?

Arming a track causes recording to start without selecting the record button? That seems unusual, i have never had that happen.

What drivers are you using? WASAPI, directsound, ASIO?

It sounds like you have direct monitoring as well as Reaper monitoring active at the same time. Either turn direct monitoring off or turn Reaper monitoring off (the small speaker button that pops up when you arm a track).
