Past that...

It might be worth it to mentally backtrack as far as changes that went into this particular personal configuration.

I'd assume that FuriousGH can at least ballpark when things started to go wrong. Without it being something really wild(MAC issue even though it looks otherwise...), it seems like it would have to be something that was changed around that time(give or take a couple of weeks...)

Also could just go through the particulars of the personal configuration until the issue pops up, and go from there.

Either way, good to hear things are back up and running correctly.

Fingers crossed.

(grin) shame you weren`t on a PC & could have done a portable install right away! But YES YES YES please compare your old reaper.ini settings with your new one & you will at least only have a few things to change in order to find out which of your changes screwed everything up.
The downside of using macs is that their OS really does try very hard to remove the need for the user to be able to "get under the hood".

Have fun!

making a portable install on mac is as easy as making a text file (reaper.ini) and copying reaper.app to the same folder as the text file.

.... but only if you know how. I have pcs and a Mac but have seldom used reaper on the Mac apart from for testing Mac plugins in beta for various firms. I know bugger all about the finer points of problem-chasing on Macs, I`m afraid.

Problem persists with EZD3 (solution of having the midi track record armed also persists)

EZD3 is working perfectly on my Mac M1 Mini in Reaper. I'm downloading it for my PC now, maybe that will be different?

I've seen the "inactive" problem occur with non-Mac silicon VSTs, and also with 32 bit vsts. This will no doubt cause many years of tail chasing on forums as mismatches occur, but I've also seen it happen when using a VST3i, but I don't think that's an option with EZD3?

Just adding that I tried with a portable install of Reaper 6.00 which is 03.12.2019 (or 12.03.2019 in the 'land of the free' (terms and conditions apply)) and got the same problem so that would make me think it is a Toontrack thing.
Windows 10 here.

Default Try this for Ez Drummer in Reaper as VSTi

Hey OP or anyone else...
If you did not figure this out yet. Right click to create a track. Select 'Insert Virtual Instrument on a new track...'. Add EZ Drummer. You will get prompt to 'Build Routing Confirmation'. Click YES.

You'll get 32 tracks and even though it all just routes thru 1/2 you should now be able to demo Grooves within Reaper and no more error message about audio in EZ Drummer UI.

Good Luck.
