Unable to create selection bar on timeline

Can someone please tell me how I can get the "orange" selection bar on the section I want to loop. It seems I was able to do this before but can't now. The manual says click and drag, but that isn't working. Maybe I turned the feature off some how? If I'm not being clear, please look at the attached screenshot.


I've noticed that I can do it in some songs but not others? Possibly a setting?

Normally it should be possible to drag on the timeline so that you can select an area which you then can loop:



Other than that you should check what mouse modifier you have set up for doing a timeline selection. I set it up so that I can Ctrl+Right drag to do a selection directly on items:



... which can behave like this:



And you can also left drag under the last track, which makes a timeline selection:

Also, if you've got 'snap' on (toggle with Alt+S), you can't drag/select less than one measure on the grid.
