It all seems quite simple now I spent a while getting my head round it. Its just like everything ultimately tho, cost.

But it would appear that SEO (ugh) is something I'm acceptable at (its really not fucking rocket science, but I also hate that I'm acceptable at it ).

Attracts some bewildered Call of Duty players for sure.

Good thing I know nothing about that, I'd pick the worst ones to advertise. I'm most proud of the crappiest ones usually.

Yeah! I enjoyed that (the cod thing)

As for crap stuff, if your crap was set up to be optimised for people searching for crap videos, it'd do great

How do you think I'm getting traffic on my pilfered drivel!?

People have no quality control or taste, so we're gonna do really well

That last post was more procrastination btw. Threw the video together in about 10 minutes, did fuck all on my own music.

I tell you whats great for procrastinating? Accidentally reinstalling windows, and having to reinstall all audio software just to be able to load a track, and doing a video for a mates track instead

Really hoping I will never have to reinstall Windows again...It's always like 6 months of random missing dll problems as I go through old projects. Don't developers use plugins themselves? Why would they deliberately make installation a tedious nightmare instead of a simple goddamn zip file?

I like how this thread is just becoming a place to procrastinate instead of overcome it though. Maybe it's fulfilled its purpose already.

I still maintain I've released more work since starting to use this thread than prior to using it.

It might not be the work I keep having in mind that I want to do, but its still work

As for windows, fucking hell yes. My heart sank when I realised the installer wasnt going to ask me what drive to install on

However, I always keep .dll's on another drive, along with any bfd or kontakt content. It helps a bit. A lot of things still need reinstalling tho, sadly.

Yea I do as well, but anytime I have to do a fresh install I kinda regret it, because I can't use the default locations of any installer, which makes the process even more tedious than clicking a thousand confirmation dialogs.

Aye, its a fookin nightmare.

I wish windows had some way of telling the system where the .dll folder is that installers could reference it. Would relieve a lot of tedium

Which reminds me, the other safety procedure is cloning my c drive once everything is installed. I must get on with that next before I forget and im back here in a few years!

More procrastination!

Dude this is basically my number one complaint of all operating systems I've used; the entire reference structure for files is based on folder hierarchies and file names that the end user can modify at will! What could go wrong?

Why isn't there an internal ID and location system that is separate from things we are likely to change? Never really made huge problems for me outside of audio work, but I had a good friend who annihilated his system one day when he completely reorganized the contents of his C: drive in a way that made perfect sense to him...

You can change the default VST folders in the registry, but most installers will just ignore those and use the typical ones. Few devs even think to have updates check where the previous install was... Uggghhh! First world problems!

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_(1976_film)

"In 2005, the two Writers Guilds of America voted Chayefsky's script one of the 10 greatest screenplays in the history of cinema. In 2007, the film was 64th among the 100 greatest American films as chosen by the American Film Institute, a ranking slightly higher than the one AFI had given it ten years earlier."

seeing that Master List in all it's blaze of glory really smacked me upside the head, good show!!

Aug 28th - Sept 4th "Kingbolt" 1st draft. do better promoting for peer review afterwards.

it's the latter that I've been bad at finding feedback on my stuff. no professional aspirations, just farting around.

Or Get Carter theme. TBH I got it because the Get Carter riff got lodged in my head.

But after discovering it has no dynamics (just like the real article, apparently) and doesnt ring out really - it seems kinda hard to use anywhere. I'd set myself a deadline for something with it but I don't even know where to start.

Also, setting a deadline that includes using something you've never used before is a great procrastination trick.

You have my admiration, sir

If you set a new deadline, I'll give you a free pass, since I neglected to put you on it before you missed it the first time...

It's my favorite pre-blues instrument. I actually use it fairly frequently, but harp usually works too.

Nice one! Or "Baching up the wrong tree"?

How about reversing a passage of audio? I've heard many instruments played back in reverse, but not harpsichord.

I guess I need to set myself a deadline for setting myself a deadline.

Help. I announced a few weeks ago that I was going to start uploading tracks onto CD Baby & someone suggested that they were not the best option & offered an alternative which lloked good. Unfortunately, I cant find the thread or remember WHO they suggested...
Got my PRS stuff through, so I am ready to go.

Also approached by Band Camp & got as far as drafting a page for ONE track & then hesitated. Any good?

Just discovered it sounds like breathy singing when reversed, slowed down to 12% and drowned in valhalla supermassive. I'm saving this fact for the future.

I just might steal this fact, right tf now.

I do of course have that plugin (and have never used it), because collecting free plugins I don't need is in my procrastinature. Checked BPB before I could even finish this post...

Thanks, Max. Sat threough the PRS newbie writers video conference last night & was mostly baffled! Pisses me off, especially since I paid them 100 UK pounds back in March & they only just got around to sorting my membership out. In the meantime I had several radio plays of my songs, which of course I wont get paid for since they hadnt processed my membership, allowing me to register the songs.

Beginning to recall why I didnt bother doing all this years ago.

Maybe something a bit big happened between march and now that slowed the process down a little? ;P

Speedrun noisemaking! Normally deciding which variant of the mix I like the most alone takes me about three days and bam this is made this morning.

It's a bit of a cheap trick isnt it. Tuned farts will sound beautiful when slowed down and reverbed a lot.

This of course isn't my target tune - it will be much more turgid and overwrought.

Er yes... they kept moaning about something to do with some sort of cover ID set at 19 messing things up.

I`ll check Distrokid out, especially with FarceBook changing their terms & conditions re live (or otherwise) streaming of music. I am left wondering who is going to jump in and offer an alternative to facebook if this new concept sticks.

Probably more to do with them losing revenue between Facebook & Youtube or similar...

Dude I had no idea I was supposed to be tuning my farts...explains a lot. But no that sounds rad. Sounds very like a dude singing into a bunch of reverb.

Damn, you know this makes me realize that a vocal element really is kinda important in music for whatever reason. They just provide instant emotion that wasn't there before (if they don't suck utterly ofc). I guess that's part of why vocal chopping is such a thing, and auto tune and all the other ways non-singers can get vox into their tracks.

I actually really like singing. Along with other voices anyway. My results tend to fuck up my songs most of the time but I'm probably a bit too hard on myself.
