Default Effects Chain Order...

Hey everyone, time for another newbie question...

Just got a new channel strip VST (Kramer HLS Channel) from Waves and I'm wondering about the order of the effects on my Main Buss channels. I'm basically using the channel strip and a compressor on all my Main Buss' but which one do I put first? Do I compress the audio then send it to the strip of vice versa...

All answers are appreciated, thanks in advance

There are no rules. Many channel strips that include a compressor will allow it to be placed either before the EQ or after it.

I suggest you try the compressor first - HLS channel strip second. If you place the comp after the channel, any EQ cut/boost will affect the way the comp behaves so you may have to adjust threshold settings.

Yeah, the biggest rule is to not let the rules dictate : ) See which you like better.

In my mind, I'll go to compressor after eq if I think the eq will change the audio in a way that will then need a little taming. And go compressor first and then eq if I'm finding that the compressor is giving me the dynamics I want but is changing the tone enough that it needs a tweak.
