Default Delaying the start of count-in when recording

Please excuse me if this has already been discussed, but I tried a bunch of searches but couldn't find anything related.

I am writing and recording my own music, by myself, and need a way of delaying the start of a count-in when recording. I'm fine when I'm recording guitar or keyboard because I'm in the control room next to the computer when I'm doing that. The problem is when I'm recording anything involving mics. I need get up and go to another room to do that. So I need a way to hit record then have the count-in start after a minute or so. Is there any way to do this in Reaper?

Why don't you just move the music files a minute down the project so you have a bit of silence while you are walking towards your drum set getting set to record. There is a count in feature but it may be confusing because you won't know when the 8 count starts to start recording.

Couldn't this be implemented using touchOSC?

Camerondye

You must be a mind reader. Yes, I am specifically talking about recording drums. Sliding the rhythm guitar track down a bit is a solution, and I guess that is what I will end up being stuck doing. I was just hoping for something more elegant, like being able to set a timer before the count-in starts. This must be a common situation for people working alone in the studio. Thanks for the help.

I'm am new to Reaper and haven't run across OSC yet. I'll research it, thanks.

Make a custom action:

Action: Wait 10 seconds before next action
Action: Wait 10 seconds before next action
Action: Wait 10 seconds before next action
Action: Wait 10 seconds before next action
Action: Wait 10 seconds before next action
Action: Wait 10 seconds before next action
Transport: Record

If you wanted a visual timer you'd need a script to count down for you, which would also let you specify the time and action to run.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am not using "Transport: Record", that I am aware of, don't know what it is. But a script is something that seems to be a possible solution. I have a 35 year history of programming IBM mainframes, but not familiar with new scripting languages. Is there any code that is available that can do this?

I will also research custom actions, thanks. All I want is silence until I am seated behind the drums, with headphones on, sticks in hand, and then an eight beat count-in starts. Thanks again.

The REAPER web-interface is made exactly for that. Press Rec on your mobile device (and a lot more) when you're ready. Of course you need a mobile device for that, but an old laptop will do it also, as long there is a decent webbrowser on it.

I have 2 different solutions to the same problem. Bought a midi footpedal from china for about 4 quid. Use it to start/stop transport when in record mode. Also I have touchOSC set up the same way on my hudl2 tablet with a basic reaper template I got from the TouchOSC sit. Both are great.

When you hit the record button you're using the action "Transport: Record".

Custom actions are easy to use and the one Lok has suggested should work well for you.

Many thanks to everyone that responded. Lots of great suggestions. I think I'll give the custom action approach a try first. That looks like the simplest and should do exactly what I need. The other interfaces that allow use of a remote device to start recording look interesting as well.

Thanks again.
