Default VST help

Hi, just installed Reaper and am really enjoying it. Decided to download a drum pack to use for recording. Everything I have looked up has said that in order to use VST files I have to go into preferences, click VST, then click add. Only problem is I don't have an add button where I am supposed to. Anyone else run into this problem? Thanks in advance.

No, there is no "add button", you just add (ie type in) the path to the plug-in paths list (if necessary)

Ok I'm gonna sound dumb here, but how exactly do I do that?

I wonder if the instructions to use the “Add” button were talking about how to add the VST to the track. That is found not in the preferences, but in the FX browser.

Are you trying to tell Reaper where to find the VST? (Which is in the preferences.) Or have you already done that?

No idea, I was going by what articles and videos told me to do.
I have not told it where to find the VST. I do remember in one video there was an actual add button that I don't seem to have which sent me down this rabbit hole.

Just to narrow it down a bit, is this the very first VST you have attempted to add and use?

Just supply the most basic details and it will be much easier to help you.

What drumpack is this?
Where did you install it to?

seems like you might not be talking about a plug-in, but a drum sample pack or MIDI files.
You need to be specific about what you have & what you expect it to do.

If it's KVLT drums II you'll be OK....if it's anything else I think you bought something other than a vst plugin.

Thunderwitch...

Could you narrow it down just a little bit more, and tell us exactly what you did buy?

As a couple of folks have mentioned, it will help with what your issue might be.

So what I bought is this bundle:

https://ugritone.com/collections/bun...tal-essentials

It is "Kvlt drums" which is a vst, and two other programs which looks like they are drum midi packs. According to the website, the kvlt drums has "VST/VST3/AU/AAX Plugin formats available. 64-bit system required"
I am fairly certain I am running 64 bit system.

Ok...

Going from the obvious stuff to more "Oh Noes!!!..." sort of issues. -

This video from the company...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKUUQiGpQsA

If you try to insert the version of KVLT Drums that you have the way they do in the video, does it come up as a virtual instrument that you can select in that dialog box?

Hello, sorry for the late reply, work has been kicking my butt as of late. No, I am unable to locate the file as shown in the video. Is it possible that I unpacked the files wrong?

No need to apologize or anything like that. Everyone gets swamped sometimes.

Just a couple of things...

Let's say you right-click on "Insert..." at the top of the main Reaper screen and select "Insert VST Instrument..." in that prompt.

Do you see KVLT Drums then?

As for that you might have unpacked the files wrong...

It might be worth describing what was in what you unpacked in detail. Something might stick out in what you actually have.

Somewhere between posting that and watching that video way too many times I figured it out and got it to work. Thanks so much for your help, now onto the daunting task of actually USING the drum tracks in recording.
