I just want to know, why has OSC suddenly been the Harbinger of MIDI Doom?

I don't think it is being viewed as a harbinger of MIDI doom - MIDI is bigger than Reaper.
But I for one had seen what appeared to be a LOT of interest and effort being directed at OSC as the new kid on the block as far as Reaper is concerned, with no real word from the devs (until schwa's recent and very enlightening post) about where some of the longstanding issues bugs and feature requests stood on the MIDI side.

Having seen in black and white that some of what we have been asking would require a major re-think of Reaper's architecture, I can see their problem and for myself, I am happy to wait and accept that they will be doing easier stuff first.

Equally, I plan on devoting SOME time to getting my feet wet with OSC, just in case
A)The MIDI stuff never works out and
B)I can find a way to implement some if not all of what I would like using OSC.

Certainly seems feasible as far as control surface support is concerned.

Excellent!

P.S. I sat on my Sat Nav - sitting on sat navs is not a good idea.

All the maps leaked out leaving a dark expanse of nothingness.

I thing it was the A339 to Godalming....

Seriously, somehow the screen on mine got ripped.... time to buy a new one I guess.

Just guessing, and my opinion only.
When Cubase was ported over to PC in 93, it was already a mature MIDI program. It took years and several attempts to get audio working right. It wasn't until SX that it really worked well. They came at it as a midi program adding audio. Reaper always seemed to me to be an audio program with midi added on. The audio is great, the midi, not to great. It is usable but a little clunky.

I saw mention of the filter, if there is anything about Cubase I miss, it is the midi filtering. Easy stuff was easy and it could get very complex if you wanted.

How do you know this?

This is what I don't get: why is it OSC has somehow diverted Cockos from Your Favorite MIDI feature, and not (let me go look...), "Freeze: by default only the media items plus FX tail length setting are rendered" or some such?

Are you a programmer, and have you seen the code?

And just in case you missed it, it was Schwa who said certain things we have been whining about would take a major rework, not me.
