SD Widescreen & YouTube [Solved]
I have video recorded in Standard Definition Widescreen 720x480 resolution that plays back at 16:9 aspect ratio.
MKVToolNix shows that the MKV file (originally an MPG [MPEG-2]) has defined properties for: Display Width = 853 Display Height = 480 However, when I render video out of Reaper, there is no option that I can tell to add the display dimensions. So the resultant rendered videos all look vertically stretched and do not appear to play back at the 16:9 aspect resolution they are supposed to. Do you have any recommendations for dealing with this type of video content? Should I just change the output resolution to 853x480? Thanks!

My target destination is YouTube. So, with that in mind, Google Recommends encoding to 854x480.
Recommended resolution & aspect ratios for YouTube

insub,
you have to keep in mind that your source video doesn't fit into the target resolution. Only thing you could do is to set the target resolution as the project resolution (project settings/video). You than have two options: You could zoom the video until the width of 720 fits into the 854 what ends up with a cut off in height. Or you could keep the height but center the video horizontally which leads into black areas on the left and right. There is no other way. People often forget that you can't put a to big or to small photo into a frame without gaps inside or outside.
