Default Problem Plugins that make the DAW run slooooooowwww...

There are certain plugins I've learned to leave off when working a session:

3rd Bass
FreeAmp
Slick EQ
BFD ECO (sometimes)

At least, it seems as if it's not possible to use those plugins live in the same session. I've been able to get 3rd bass to work by exporting the track I'm using it on (usually bass,) and then re-importing it to another track so that the effect is there without it having to be live. But is that ideal? Seems like I'd better save a backup file of that same track without the effect (although I never do.)

But you get the point, I think? Is there a way to make Reaper run better with problem plugins? Lower the CPU usage of the DAW perhaps?

just freeze the tracks with those plugin, and when you need to recalibrate some parameters you can unfreeze, do your stuff, and then freeze again.

Freezing, of course! Okay so there's like 3 options for Freezing a track when I right click on it. Which one do I need?

it depends if the track is stereo or mono.
If it's let's say a bass line, without stereo fx (chorus or delay for example) freeze it to mono.
if it's stereo freeze to stereo, if multichannel freeze to multichannel

Me either. Works perfectly here. In fact, I was so impressed with the free version that I paid for the GE version.

Thanks for the answers. But... Chorus is not necessarily stereo, is it?

not necessary, but it works better if you want to give "space" to the sound

Do you use Slick EQ on the master bus of a session that contains all your stems, or on a rendered file that you are attempting to master?

When loading up a suspect plugin..use the drop down menu and check" run in buggy mode" and maybe "run in seperate process" so that if it crashes it won't take the whole house of cards with it

is the difference worth buying the GE-version? I have considered that, too.

Okay so freezing a track didn't seem to clear up the problem. But - check the 1st screenshot below, I ran across this while looking through the User Guide.

Could someone perhaps point out to me where the things are it is referring to? I have the Buffering tab open (see 2nd screenshot) and it's not at all clear. Thanks.

mmmh if freezing a track didn't fix this issue probably it's not a plugin issue.
Can you post a screenshot of you session when this issue appear?

I've used SlickEQ and SlickEQ GE on pretty much everything from individual tracks to the 2 buss without any issues.

It is for me. I particularly like the extra saturation models in the GE version. The exciter model is particularly nice for some subtle dynamic enhancement on EQ boosts. The tilt function is handy too.
