Default (reposted in Bugs thread) Disable time selection in MIDI editor?

NOTE: this has been re-posted as a potential bug report. Any further posts belong there now

https://forum.cockos.com/showthread....51#post2058751

This keeps happening and it's driving me nuts. When in the MIDI editor, while setting my cursor position for playback, I click just above the MIDI editor grid (in the MIDI ruler area). The problem is, I tend to click and slightly drag the mouse thus creating a time selection. If I instead position my cursor by clicking in the MIDI grid area, I accidentally create new notes.

I understand I can lock time selections, but that seems to prevent me from deleting time selections. I want to create time selections at will in the track control area, but never in the MIDI editor.

Is this possible?

I tried setting the mouse modifier default action for the MIDI ruler to "no action", but that seems to have no effect. I can still draw a time selection in the MIDI editor ruler area.

That modifier seems to only allow you to change the time selection behavior here, not disable it, so I think you'll need to make a request to do that.

I don't understand what you mean.

I'm wondering if this is a bug. I would have thought that setting the default action of a left drag in the MIDI editor ruler to "no action" would mean that left dragging the mouse in the MIDI editor ruler area would then do nothing instead of continuing to set a time selection. Am I misunderstanding the meaning of that option?
