Hi Paul & Welcome

Tutorial's are pretty well covered in Reaper but you're on the right track I think with showing some basic 'How's

Just saw this thread= http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=154705

& it's quite common, there's a lot to take in when first starting' also using the gtr tuner & setting a high-pass on the EQ,,things like that?

Just suggestions you might consider?

Cheers Jiff (and hello to another Welshie)

Good suggestions, and areas I will more than likely cover. My aim is to offer regular tips and tricks along with longer and more detailed tutorials on specifics (like recording, mixing, etc) over time.

I found that during my early stages of working with Reaper that other than the Groove3 tutorials by Kenny Gioia that the tutorials were kind of sporadic and disjointed, so took a fair bit of digging around to find the gems

Regards

Paul

Hey all,

I've just added a new tutorial to my YouTube channel. This one covers the use of the free SWS Extensions add-on for working with Snapshots - This great facility allows you to quickly make various mixes /edits and easily switch between them without having to save multiple versions of the same file.

Check it out and let me know if you found it useful: http://youtu.be/hmGx79WFlWg

Please subscribe to my channel to be kept up to date with all the free tutorials as soon as they are added.

Thanks

edit: never mind. just found i could request the html5 player on youtube and your files play fine. oops. tuts much appreciated, btw.

psmeg, are you encoding to flash or is that youtube doing that? if you have a choice, please use html5. i get frequent notices to update flash when i try to use it and adobe has deceptive practices which install mcafee software along with flash. search their forums for LOTS of upset users. flash is incredibly annoying and should no longer be used.

thanks,
BabaG

Hi All,

It's been a few weeks since I posted my last Reaper tutorial, but I've just put together a tutorial on creating a custom action to copy a take to a new track. This is a quick an easy way to promote your best take to its own track ready for editing without the distraction of the other takes on a track.

Check it out here and please subscribe to my channel to be kept up to date with all future free Reaper video tutorials.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mK0iJrFVUTA

You can also download the custom action from my website for free.

http://www.psmegtv.co.uk/reaper-tuto...custom-action/

I hope you enjoy the tutorials :0)

Hey, hey!

After the previous video covering the creation of custom actions, I thought I'd put a part 2 up that expands on this by adding your custom actions to your toolbars to customize your workflow.

You can check out this quick tip here: http://youtu.be/VSAyY7IRJKA

And don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube Channel to be kept up to date with all the latest new videos as they are added

All the best.

I have to tell you Paul, that's a great tutorial vid.

Clear, concise and straight to the point!

Great work!

I'm looking forward to seeing more.

One question: what theme are you using?

I like those mixer strips with the pan control at the bottom.

Thanks for those! As a relative newbie, I'm learning some new stuff from the videos (indeed I was especially pleased to see the one on sws snapshots since I was about to post a forum question asking whether one could have multiple project states for comparison purposes.)

It's Reaper Friday and the latest tutorial has been uploaded today :0)

The Basics of Gain Staging Part 2

In part 2 of the Gain Staging Basics series I look at a simple method of dealing with Direct Input (DI) instruments or mics. How to reduce the volume (using the JS Utility Volume Plug-in) prior to hitting the faders to ensure that you signal isn't too hot and you have plenty of headroom for the mixing stage.

I also cover setting up a track template to save time when creating future tracks.

I keep meaning to watch all of these and never seem to find the time!

Since I am now in France for a month with no english language telly to watch after a day of speaking and listening to nothing but french, I am ready to hear a Brit!

Thanks for doing these tutorials.

I always find something that presses the "i knew that!" button on all of them. Amazing how quickly you forget stuff when you are entering that wonderful fourth age... senile decay!

P.S. I think mine is brain arthritis.... It hurts to think.

I can empathise with that..

I hope you do find them useful, even if just a refresher in things that the 'senile decay' has helped you forget ;0)

P.S. Senile Decay sounds like an 80's death metal band. lol

Afternoon all,

There are 2 new video series added to the channel today:

1. Sequencing midi drums with Reaper (part 1)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mn6JuXZ2nE4

Sequencing Drums Part 1 for Cockos Reaper DAW shows you how to set up the virtual instrument, route it through multi-channel and parent the tracks.

Utilizing Toontrack's EZ Drummer 2, Paul guides you through the process of creating your first simple drum beat. He also touches upon the use of velocity to add more dynamics to the beat as well as increasing the complexity of the beat.

Although this series uses Reaper and EZ Drummer 2, the principals should translate to any DAW without too much of a problem.

2. Reaper Quick Tips: Hide Inactive Takes

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfKezLUJ2vE

Cockos Reaper Quick Tips: This short video tip shows you how to quickly and easily show or hide your inactive takes in a recording / mixing session.

A great way to de-clutter your session without losing the ability to go back and swap takes later.

--------------------------------

Please feel free to comment, like and Subscribe to the YouTube Channel and be kept up to date when the next video is added :0)

Utilizing Toontrack's EZ Drummer 2, I guide you through the process of creating more complex drum beats and utilise a range of techniques to add a human feel. I cover the use of velocity, ghost notes and the Humanize functions.

Although this series uses Reaper and EZ Drummer 2, the principals should translate to any DAW without too much of a problem.
