Getting My Music Copyrighted
I want to register my band name and music, to protect it all from anybody plagiarizing-Is that possible, how much does it cost, and what agency to I search?
If this thread doesn't belong, my apologies.

You cannot register your band name as a copyright.
You have a copyright on your music automatically once you created it. Registration is required if you want to sue someone for copyright infringement. A good resource to orient yourself about copyright is the US Copyright Office.

Shit, I forgot to say I'm Canadian. I found an agency in Saskatchewan a year ago, but they didn't reply to my email.

You can trademark your band name and/or a logo.
Google found How To Trademark Your Band's Name In 4-Steps. They bring-up a good question... Who should own the trademark? If it's your band you should own the trademark. If "the band" owns the name things can get tricky.
Google also found Canadian Intellectual Property Office
IMO - If a band is (or becomes) "a business" or if the band is "making money" it's better if it's NOT a democracy.

...and hope that NOBODY out there has already trademarked your name, and thus YOU become unable to use it any longer - where right now, no harm no foul because you're not big enough 'to matter', nobody knows about you, you don't know about them...
Happened to some guys I knew in high school. When they went to register their "I make $500/yr" band name, they were immediately handed a cease and desist notice from the 'actual' owners of that name.

Most of us who have gone through this would be flattered if anyone was interested enough in our music to try to steal it...

I believe this is true most places (the USA anyway). My wife is a photographer; the second she takes a pic, it is copyrighted and nobody can use that image without permission. I believe a song is the same way; but in both cases, it could be hard to prove who did it first, I guess.

^ Yup. The Chiffons sued George Harrison for "My sweet lord" - it was exactly like "He's so Fine"...

Not the only time it's happened. Many do skate very close to the line in 'copying' (hey, there's only so many notes!). We hear it every day.

Dazed & confused was a fairly well-known locally played tune they copped; the Yardbirds even did their version, Page brought it along w/him. A couple of others, too. I like their versions of them much better, LOL.
Nowadays I amuse my wife by singing 'the real lyrics' to all kinds of songs that come on the radio or in the background on Netflix. After 40, 50 yrs - I guess these are now 'motifs'.

I often used Jankowik'd lyrics. Like:
Hold me closer Tony Danza, count the headlice on the highway
Or
She's got nuclear boobs, her Mom has two, y'know I read it in a magazine
Or
Dirty deeds and der done to sheep

Philbo & Doug, those are good, ha ha! I meant more like when you hear a new pop song, and you can start singing an old beatles tune or something like that.
A netflix show the other night had an EM - G - C thing going in the background, sounded just like the verses in "Sunday Bloody Sunday", so I started singing that. Never fails to amuse, esp. when there is a lot of EDM stuff also going on.
