What steps have you taken? How are you trying to get it to work? I think people will need way more information in order to be able to help. These are EuCon surfaces. Are you using the old EuCon plugin that Geoff Waddington made? CSI?

Default Eucon control

Yes I am trying to use the extension built by Geoff
Obviously this is no good
I would like to get this working I have a bit of money invested in Eucon artist surfaces and would sell in a heartbeat if I could get money for them but no one is interested in buying them. If I did i would just get the Softube controllers but
it would be nice to get these to work. No I haven't tried CSI and downloaded the latest Eucon from Geoff but no go. I may have files in the wrong place. But the install instructions are vague at best. I followed them to the letter. Nothing
Maybe this is the wrong software. I don't know this is why Im asking for help
I've been a Sequoia user for over 10 years and use version 13 cause 14 and 15 don't work with the Artist series I spend months trying to make it work no dice.
Thanks to anyone who can help me
Cheers

I've only got an Artist Mix but the old pre-CSI Eucon plugin from Geoff just worked out of the box. I'd startup Reaper and everything would come to life. The CSI+Eucon functionality is finally about on par.

Why don't you pop on over to the main CSI thread, let Geoff know which surfaces you have, and ask how well he thinks CSI+Eucon would work. I'm pretty sure he's got an Artist Control+Artist Mix. I think big chunks of that functionality is implemented but not everything. Anyway, couldn't hurt to ask and explore that option.

The thread is right here: https://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=183143

And the good news is, we're trying really hard to get some good CSI documentation together (I've been helping in this respect).

For instance, here's the installation instructions:

https://github.com/malcolmgroves/rea...i/Installation

I am using CSI with a EuCon S3 surface and Euphonix transport, and its really stable. As noted in the CSI Forum, EuCon support is currently the basic controls, faders, solo mutes, pan, sends at present. Geoff is working on Meters at present.

Recent additions have been automation modes cycling using the channel rec buttons.

One thing that I love is that in EuControl.app, you can assign Reaper Actions to physical buttons as well!

Leap on over to the CSI forum and join the group.

Default CSI

Thanks dude I will do so I need to clean out all the old eucon crap and install CSI and go from there.
I've been on this all day and very tired now.
I do a lot of beta testing for Plugin Alliance, Flux and Steven Slate
And have worked with DAW's for decades. Use to be the Dyaxis support person for Studer
But for some reason this is really busting my groove.
Thanks for the advice Im not going anywhere so I have time to get it up and running
Glad to know about CSI and I can delete the old Eucon control stuff
Thanks again
Stay safe a well
Cheers

Yup, its oddly challenging. Make sure you have the latest EuCon software from Avid, they released an update last week that is the best version I have used.... in over 15yrs. Its a good point to start from for implementing CSI.

Have you seen Geoffs video with his 2 x Artist Mixes and 1 x Control?

We'll get you going, but we need sone info.

What OS ?

What Reaper version ?

What EuControl version ?

Which units ? -- I think you said 3 Mixes and a Control ?

Please post the contents of your CSI.ini file.

It's usually some little thing -- ain't it always ?

OK, first off, the alpha stuff is over, don't know if this matters, but you should delete owner/ReaperEucon/CSIalpha/CSI.

Now, let's get your EuCon surfaces working.

Did you do anything special to set them up as HUI or Mackie -- you probably didn't.

If you did, please put them back to EuCon protocol.

Now, clean everything out and do a fresh install, following the EuCon instructions from the wiki.

When you get to the surfaces page delete all the surfaces.

Now Add EuCon, choosing a channel count that is comfortable for you -- say your projects are typically 30 tracks, maybe choose 50 to give yourself some room.

You do not do this for every surface, just once.

In the end your CSI.ini should look like this:

Code:
"HomePage" FollowMCP NoSynchPages UseScrollLink NoTrackColoring { 39 255 45 }
EuConSurface "EuCon" 50 "EuCon" NoZoneLink
That should work, if the installation went well.

Don't worry too much about deleting the files.

The important thing is that you do an install as per the instructions.

What you do want to delete are all the surfaces by selecting each one and removing it from the left hand window.

Once you have an empty list, then add 1 EuCon only as per a few posts back.

You should then have a CSI.ini with just 2 lines like the one shown above.

[edit]

Haha cross post, just get the latest, make sure you get both the CSI beta shown below AND the https://stash.reaper.fm/v/37947/reaper_csurf_EuCon.zip you need both.

OK, when you do, please post your CSI.ini file and indicate exactly where you ended up putting the CSI folder and dlls.

Even though we don't have realtime support, we often have an ongoing discussion about issues.

So definitely feel free to post, you may get a quick response, if anything isn't entirely clear.

We updated the wiki Installation section recently.

We'll get you going sooner or later, thanks for persevering

Default Eucon control

Hi Geoff
Well I'm finally getting back to this had other beta software to install and begin testing. Anyway I read the instructions completely top to bottom and have one question nothing is mentioned about order of install on Reaper and the New Eucon Workstation 20.1.0.50 very strange no num lock key function
Which should I install first and with the numlock not working I think a CClean and reboot is necessary.
Thanks for your patience
Cheers

You should be able to install in any order as far as I know.

Have no idea what's up with the num lock.

Default Eucon and CSI

Hi Geoff
I'm Back
Sure would like to get this working
Tried Mackie control and got some where
but all surfaces had the same 8 tracks on each controller
This is new I had some fader control no solo and mute on a few channels
I really can't afford to get new controllers and what would I get anyway
They all have their own set of issues
I live in the middle of nowhere Phoenix HAHA
Trying again have I set them in some weird mackie mode I guess
I have gone thru our messages and I still cannot get it to function correctly
What Have I missed I see CSI is now part of reaper which may explain the same channels replicating on all three surfaces 2 mixers and a control
Where do I start now and what should I remove and what should I install
Sure wish you or someone who has this all working remote onto my workstation and see if you/they can sort it out. I need of upgrade but sequoia is too much money and the new version of samplitude did not work with my Avis Artist Eucon cpntrol surface If I could sell it all I would just to get something that will work.
Lets try again
Thanks Perry

Ok, first off, why do you say CSI is now part of Reaper ?

Are you trying to install the MCU plugin that comes with Reaper, that is different from CSI.

CSI has just gone through a major rewrite, so there are some teething pains right now, should be sorted out shortly

At that point, we will update the wiki.

Meanwhile, if you are installing the stock MCU, there is a parameter -- I think it is called offset -- that should be set to 0 for the first one, 8 for the second, 16 for the third -- that should get you started for now -- please get back with details of exactly how you are going about installing this, whether you are PC or Mac, what OS version, etc., and we will get you going.

The key is to not bash away, but get back often with questions, we are here to help.

Yes.

Here's an example of one:

VST__Arousor_Empirical_Labs.zon
Code:
Zone "VST: Arousor (Empirical Labs)"
SelectedTrackNavigator

Toggle+Invert+FX_SwitchUpper2Ch1 FXParam "36" "Bypass"
FX_Display2Ch1 FXParamNameDisplay "99" "Arousor"

FX_Rotary2Ch2 FXParam "0" "Input" "2"
FX_Display2Ch2 FXParamNameDisplay "0" "Input"

FX_Rotary2Ch3 FXParam "4" "Ratio" "2"
FX_Display2Ch3 FXParamNameDisplay "4" "Ratio"

FX_Rotary2Ch4 FXParam "1" "Attack" "2"
FX_Display2Ch4 FXParamNameDisplay "1" "Attack"

FX_Rotary2Ch5 FXParam "2" "Release" "2"
FX_Display2Ch5 FXParamNameDisplay "2" "Release"

FX_Rotary2Ch6 FXParam "3" "Output" "2"
FX_Display2Ch6 FXParamNameDisplay "3" "Output"

FX_Rotary2Ch7 FXParam "6" "Saturation" "2"
FX_Display2Ch7 FXParamNameDisplay "6" "Saturation"

FX_Rotary2Ch8 FXParam "11" "Mix" "2"
FX_Display2Ch8 FXParamNameDisplay "11" "Mix"

FX_Rotary2Ch9 FXParam "5" "AttackMod" "2"
FX_Display2Ch9 FXParamNameDisplay "5" "AttackMod"

FX_Rotary2Ch10 FXParam "7" "SideFreq" "2"
FX_Display2Ch10 FXParamNameDisplay "7" "SideFreq"

FX_Rotary2Ch11 FXParam "8" "BoostCut" "2"
FX_Display2Ch11 FXParamNameDisplay "8" "BoostCut"

FX_Rotary2Ch12 FXParam "9" "BoostCut" "2"
FX_Display2Ch12 FXParamNameDisplay "9" "Frequency"

FX_Rotary2Ch13 FXParam "10" "BoostCut" "2"
FX_Display2Ch13 FXParamNameDisplay "10" "Bandwidth"

ZoneEnd
You can run the CSI action to show FX params on load, or dump raw FX to text file on load in order to figure out what parameter is assigned to what FXParam number.

hey! i' getting there first tryout works.

how do i find out the avid artist control parameters?
like "Toggle+Invert+FX_SwitchUpper2Ch1", where/what is it?
can I assign even more like the push-function of the encoders?
or even see the actual values on the display?

and what does the "2" mean at the end of each first line?

FX_Rotary2Ch2 FXParam "41" "EQ Low Gain" "2"
FX_Display2Ch2 FXParamNameDisplay "41" "EQ Low Gain"

thanks!! henrik

Forgive my ignorance (as always) but Geoff-- is the CSI config different from the EuCon Control Surface thing you uploaded to the Reaper Stash?

If I can customize any of the non-functioning buttons on Artist Mix somehow... that would RULE. Specifically: the TOP buttons: SEL, ON (I'd love that to be Track Select, and Record Arm)... Top Back does nothing, as well as Page < > (it shows Reverb, Delay, and you can turn them on with "ON" but nothing happens).

Very curious how CSI can configure more stuff for Artist Mix than the basic EuCon. I'm happy with the EuCon script you made... it's good.

I have:
Faders
Mute / Solo (with Solo light, unlike Mackie Control)
Pan
Record Arm
Track Select (and also, by fader touch, which I found in the EuControl config)
Nudge & Bank

That's all pretty dope. Screens look great. If I could do sends, that would be AMAZING. I know I'm not the first person to ask about that.

I know X-Touch is way more powerful as you said... I haven't done anything with my X-Touch yet, but looking forward to messing around with CSI.... but right now, Artist Mix is my main concern.

Seems like the Euphonix Transport (Which I also have) can have the number pad assigned to misc Reaper Actions through EuCon, which is RAD! I just wish those useless buttons on Artist Mix could do the same, with EuCon.

Learning, learning....

Thank you SO much!

Other than the button assignment you can do with Reaper Actions through EuCon, there are no customizations available.

CSI and EuCon use completely different approaches.

CSI is made to be customized.

EuCon is made to conform to EuCon principles.

Thanks, Geoff! So yeah, you mentioned numerous times Artist Mix can't have the buttons customized. But with CSI, can it? It seems like CSI can customize ANYTHING, even with feedback (light on/off). Doesn't matter if it's Avid stuff or Behringer or anything else.

Correct? Thanks man! And yes, I have no idea why I'm getting mad lag when inserting tracks. You did demonstrate that in one of your videos, but when a window was closed or something, it was instant/fast.

No clue why this might be happening, but then again, that no-lag was with CSI from my memory... not EuCon.

No, CSI can't do Avid, CSI does not support EuCon, they are entirely different worlds.

CSI supports MIDI and OSC, not EuCon.

The lag is happening, because each time you change the Track count EuCon has to reconstruct its world, and that is excruciatingly slow.

I've been battling this problem for almost a decade with varied strategies, none successful so far

Damn. Ok. Good to know. Thank you so much. Maybe X-Touch might be the way. I don't know...

Sigh. I love Artist Mix, the low profile, the screens are gorgeous. I don't need 16 channels even though I LOVE having the two of them side by side. 8's fine, banking over, etc.

Thoughts?

You asked me for my thoughts, I just answered a post in the other EuCon thread -- the user was having crashes with the latest EuControl software. He said the previous version runs fine -- I replied that's what I use as well.

So, that's one of the things you never have to worry about with modern MIDI Surfaces, they are all class compliant -- meaning they don't need drivers and just work -- plug them in and away you go.

With Avid you are beholden to their view of the world - two of the units I purchased (Control and Transport) are no longer supported. About a year from now support for the Mix units will end.

So you have obsolescence issues.

You have software driver issues, meaning the software must be running properly for EuCon units to work with Reaper -- you ran into this yourself.

You have issues with Avid supporting your version of an OS.

I have issues, in that I must keep up with their software release schedule to keep everything running.

On the other hand, I can take a fifteen year old Mackie Control Universal (MCU), plug it in, and go, it's that simple.

As you know I gave away 4 Artist units -- 2 Mixes, a Transport, and a Control, and got an X Touch Universal.

So my thoughts on their business model, their hardware, their software, their interface... to be completely candid, not much at all.
