Default First attempt - cannot see video!

My first time trying to edit audio on on a video (in Reaper) but struggling so can someone help please?
Latest version of Reaper 6015 64 bit win 10.

It is video from an old transferred cine film of a friend who would like the audio cleaned up a bit so have extracted to hard drive and done a convert to MPG.

Followed the instructions in https://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.php/Video_Support to get going:
Installed latest VLC player 64bit (was already installed but reinstalled to ensure correct version)

Ran video from explorer into VLC and it plays fine.

Dropped video onto time line in Reaper from explorer and audio track visible and output OK.
Selected View Video from Reaper drop down menu and video window appears with just green content and does not play along with audio at all.

Rebooted PC just in case but same no video pix result. had a look at Kenny's video Video Basic Helpers but obviously not basic enough for me! EDIT: Found the more basic video of Kenny's (13/15) which does start from where I need but that is what I did -still end up with a green video window and no vid!

Can anyone advise how to sort?

Thank you for that, Uncleswede.

It actually corresponds to the instructions I located but I did notice that there was a link to samples from Cockos to download (link in the user guide for vers 6.15 page 370). That I did and the vid plays fine from those.

That has pointed me back to the file I converted as a potential problem so am currently reconverting into a Quicktime .mov file to more or less match the sample.

Will post back soon with the result of that.

Success!

Now the only remaining question is why the original conversion played OK in VLC but not via Reaper (using VLC!)?
