Leftover Lasagna's Pushtec 5+1A EQ. It has been my go-to mid-range EQ for over 3 years, and I don't see it changing any time soon.....

For freebies, Synth1 gets my vote... maybe not "best ever"
but damn good and fun to play with. I have a great techno
tune I'm working on now where Synth1 is both the lead line
as well as the drums... cool beans

No easy choice!
For freebies I'd like to mention "Glitch" and "Chariesis" (FX).
Not to forget that most Cockos plugins are very versatile and flexible.

The about to be released Head Case by AcmeBarGig hands down, for me. This has the potential to revolutionize amp sims completely. I am so excited about this software. That never happens to me.

That would go under plugins that are vapor.

'To be released' is not vapour. The developer and the beta community is extremely active right now. It's coming, trust me.
I'm a pre-purchaser and active beta tester so I can assure you that it is not vapour. It most certainly did not make the deadline, but that is because the beta testing group have convinced ABG that certain things need to be fixed before releasing, otherwise it would have been out.
It will be worth the wait. It will be very worth it.

Dead easy: Autotune.
THE unsuck plugin.
Everyone rags on it, but they're just being childish. Pitch correction saved the world, enda story.

The best plugin ever? I would say WizooVerb W2. I have yet to find another reverb plugin that can compare. Unfortunately it was discontinued years ago by Avid. Among what's currently available, I'm a huge fan of FabFilter plugins and especially Pro-Q.

Izotope Ozone - period. It is my most heavily relied on plugin.
Second place goes to Poise, by One Small Clue. This is a must have for the Hip-Hop producer, and it's the closest thing on the market (free or paid) to an MPC.

jease...
best free:
SSL LMC-1
best paid:
Waves VEQ (as much as I'd love to ditch ilok plugs, I can't find something that sounds as good)
very close runners up:
ozone
the rocket
the glue
fabfilter pro-q
best IR library:
bricasti m7 impulse responses with any decent IR plugin (ReaVerb works for me).
though I'd like to give ValhallaRoom a try. I've heard amazing things about it like "made me ditch my IR libraries" which would be great cause using IRs is kinda tedious sometimes.
very close second:
pipelineaudio's stuff (mainly drum sounds and reverb impulses)
thoughts:
if I didn't have any plugins all of a sudden and a couple thousand to spend on em, I do go with soundtoys suite, fabfilter suite, SIR2, the glue, the rocket, vintage amp room, linplug organ, valhalla's stuff, waves VEQ, kontakt, battery, and probably a few duende native plugins.
I didn't list that many instruments because I intentionally distance myself from instrument plugins. it is such an endless sea that I fear I will slip through a crack in space time continuum. I barely made it back from the sea of effect plugins as it is... okok - UHE ACE.
oh and if I didn't have any plugins and had a couple of hundred to spend:
toneboosters suite
stillwell rocket and vibe eq
also, I would kill for a intel mac compatible version of spitfish.

Valhalla Room
Superior Drummer 2
Nasty DLA

XT 1.4 the fixer
Got a plugin that doesn't load in Reaper (Wrap it in XT)
Reaper not passing key shortcuts to your plugin, happens a lot here (Wrap it in XT)
Need a quick sampler (XT)
Need an amazing Arp (XT)
Wnat to trigger a piece of audio or MIDI (XT)
Want to be able to route anything anywhere (XT)
Don't like Reapers MIDI editing (XT)
The list really does go on and on, and when it was released really was the hottest plugin around, XT2 came out and the ball was well and truly dropped
But yeah XT 1.4 greatest plugin of all time

I could never get DynamiteCowbell to work
I vote for Perky or Particle fountain depending on your preference.
Kitchen Sync get honorable mention (once you get it you will hope someone says you have everything but the Kitchen Sink referring to your plugins)

There is a lot of very good free plugins.
I like particulary the Togu audio line they've got nice aspect, and some are really inspiring and very musical, like TAL Dub ones, and the synths are sounding good enough to be placed at a first place in a mix.
One of my fav free synth, it's not the best looking, it's not updated since a long time, it don't have the best synth algorythm, but it can do a lot of things... Greenoak Crystal.
And a litlle Rombo to warm all of this

i think there's no way you can say best plugin ever. there are plugins best suited for certain things.
that said, i like sonnox bundle and izotope ozone. and superior drummer 2 and kontakt. i also like fm8, rcomp, L2 limiter, and battery 3.
those i think are my most heavily used plugins. but like i said, best plugin ever? i think i couldn't find best compressor ever even, different compressors for different tasks. there are also many plugins i've not tried that i might prefer.

The Luddites were a social movement of 19th-century English textile artisans who protested – often by destroying mechanised looms – against the changes produced by the Industrial Revolution, which they felt were leaving them without work and changing their way of life. The movement was named after General Ned Ludd or King Ludd, a mythical figure who, like Robin Hood, was reputed to live in Sherwood Forest.[1]

ya, that's why i was confused as to your usage of it. i don't get why you are a luddite, and why that has to do with your understanding of reaper. ok, i guess you hate looms, but i think the hatred really was more of industry and machined production in general, not just looms. but ok, you hate looms. i still don't get it looms don't have much to do with reaper.
maybe you're a neo-luddite? is that a thing? hatred of the computer revolution? i think i get it, that's what you mean, you're old school, pre-computer, mechanical oriented, not software guru.
...stupid looms.
confirmed "In modern usage, "Luddite" is a term describing those opposed to industrialisation, automation, computerisation or new technologies in general.[8]" also from wikipedia.
just never heard that term used that way before. in my part of the world i think quite few people know the meaning.
