Default Is this even possible???

I don't really know how to say this, but what I want is to be able to plug my guitar into my mixing board, run it into the computer and have it come out distorted / flanged / chorused / reverbed / etc out of the speakers. How would I do this in real time??? I'm not talking aobut recording a clean guitar part and then adding effects. I want it to happen in real time. The reason I want to do this is because I don't have an amp yet and can;t afford one until september. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you monitor through the effect, in real time, you won't know the difference between that and any other method. The fact that it is actually being recorded without the effect won't matter - indeed that allows you to optimise the effect later on. Or, in Reaper, you can record the track output with the effect embedded if you really want.

Default Insert it, bro!

So:
Guitar -> DI -> mixer channel X!

Channel X insert`s send goes into computer input A (at this point you open your DAW and insert as many FX as you wish in the selected track).

Select that track´s output and connect it to your insert cable´s return end.

Is this it?

That´s what you want to know?

Just don´t forget to set your buffer to 128 samples or less ( kinda 1.5 ms), ok?

Yep, not a big deal at all. You will need a card with pretty low latency to do it comfortably. (<10ms for sure)

By the way, if you haven't tried the JS amp sims, included with Reaper, now's a good time.

Default by the way....

What soundcard are you using??

If it´s a 2X2 (2in2out), then you´ll kinda have limited options.

And check these threads, since you're not after a clean sound:

plus dimitar's dedicated guitar page (with REAPER focus)*:

* when I watch dimitar playing guitar on that page's video, I feel I better start learning to yodel a bit and buy a Lederhose from selling my dear instruments.... The guy is as fast as he is precise.
