Default license key vs authorization code

I have an old (4.76) version of Reaper that I am perfectly happy with for my purposes, and so I haven't upgraded. The problem is that every time I run the program I get the activation screen instead of the program just running. This may be because I have had to go through a number of computers since the original installation.

Anyway, in checking old emails to look for a license key all I can find is an authorization code, which Reaper does not recognize.

Anybody know what I have to do to get rid of that opening screen (or how to get a license key)?

Thanks.

If you have a backup of a working Reaper installation:

1) Options -> Open REAPER resource path
2) Copy the reaper-license.rk file
3) Paste the license file to the REAPER resource folder in your current Reaper version

Or save the reaper-license.rk from your email and copy it manually into the resource folder.

As a side note:

- If you install Reaper on a different computer or make a portable install to a different folder, you'll have to activate this installation again using your existing license key file.
- If you open the .rk file with a text editor, you can see through which Reaper versions the license file is valid.
- In case you don't have the license file anymore, contact Cockos Support: http://www.cockos.com/index.php

Default still can't find license file

Thanks for the reply, but here's all I can find in my email file:

Your license name is: Jay Mark
Your license code is: VJSZ2Z-4Q1.... etc.

Maybe there's an .rk file somewhere but I have no idea where. Shouldn't I be able to use the license code listed above? Either to activate the program or to enable me to get the .rk file?

(Of course, in practice this is just a minor annoyance, but I would like to get rid of that opening screen and the associated delay if possible.)

Thanks,

Jay

PS - There is no .rk file anywhere in the REAPER program folder.

Are you sure this email is for Reaper and not for a different software?
Does it say ':REAPER LICENSE' somewhere in the email?: http://wiki.cockos.com/wiki/index.php/ReaperReg

Otherwise, as already mentioned, contact Cockos Support directly about this.

Is the .rk file attached to the email?

Good point.

@jaymark The .rk file should be attached to the license email. If that's not the case, you should at least have this text section in the email (as seen in the "Using the clipboard to import" section in the ReaperReg link in my previous post):

:REAPER LICENSE
<license key code>
:END

Default license problem

Thanks, guys. The email from Reaper shows exactly what I posted before:

"Your license name is: Jay Mark"
"Your license code is: VJSZ2Z-4Q1.... etc." (Quotes added by me.)

There was no attachment. And when I first used the program after buying it, it worked fine using that "license code" I cited above. So somewhere along the line something apparently changed. I will take your advice and contact Cockos. I just thought maybe you guys might know something I didn't.

Thanks again,

Jay

Default answer to license problem

I contacted Cockos and learned that my license code (for version 2) is in a format that is no longer used. I was advised to reinstall my original version, which I did, and now I'm fine.

Thanks for your attempts to help.
