Default Whiskey Point

This is my new band Whiskey Point and our first release "Too Much Whiskey"

Drums are proudly recorded with Reaper at my house and the rest is done in Logic by another band member. I tried to convert him to Reaper

Hope you like it!

Very good! Nice mix. Vocals nice and clear. Nice guitar work. There seems to be something going on in the background where it seems a solo should be but if that is so, it's buried. Other than that, very well done and a great song to boot.

Cool, thanks for listening!

Here is a new one, "40 Thieves" released today. Hope you like it!

Lyric Video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1U837KxDiSU

Sound Cloud - https://soundcloud.com/whiskeypoint/40-thieves

@Beat Machine - I'm not sure, we have all been playing our instruments for over 30 years. We are just 3 guys that enjoy playing and recording (and drinking too much whiskey) . We all like metal, blues, rock, alternative, etc. We are really into new Stoner Rock at the moment. I'm listening to a lot of All Them Witches, Mars Red Sky, Uncle Acid, etc.

2nd song is good, too, but high hats or cymbals are not good at all, like having been played by a little girl that does not dare to hit too strong checking it out for the first time. I mean there is this huge guitar sound and so weak hh!? It just my opinion, no offense intented, you did a good job otherwise

Default its just that Chicago vibe

the name of your band is perfect in describing your music.

I listen to a lot of styles of blues. You have that vibe
I like the dynamic progression in the song

it would be hard to improve
This will get you lots of bar gigs!?

Thanks for listening!

@gandsnut - Scott the singer/guitar player is originally from the Whiskey Point area of Chicago, but moved out to Lemont at some point in his adult life. Nate the guitar/engineer lives in Glendale Heights. I most recently moved from the west suburbs (Naper/Aurora) to NW Indiana. I currently live in middle of nowhere but still only 1 hour from Chicago. We jam live at my place and I record all the drums here (Reaper) and everything else is recorded at Nate's house. He is recording engineer by trade and does all the mixing, etc.

You can really feel those stoner rock influences in this. Could use a more aggressive, snappier snare? Some more aggression in the bottom end and compression on the drums esp snare and could be a dope stonerish track. EDIT: (I'm talking about 40 thieves actually, not the original post)

Thanks for checking it out!

Ah yes the snare, I play a Roland TD50 and blend sounds from the TD50 with Superior Drummer 3 (kick, snare and toms), I have been searching for the right snare sound for my entire life it seems, can never seem to get there 100%. The journey continues

We are 3 40+ year old guys that all have full time jobs and enjoy playing. We've all been musicians since we were 13-14 years old. We are currently going down the rabbit hole of all the killer new stoner rock music. Some really great bands out there right now.

We started on a blues album and wrote a handful of tunes influenced by John Lee Hooker mainly, and then we progressively got heavier and heavier. I started showing the other guys all the cool new stoner rock bands and now we are writing a bunch of new songs, blues influence but heavier. Anyway, lot's more to come. I will post them as we finish them. Thanks for listening and the feedback!

I'm generally into electronic music but I sometimes go on a stoner metal binge, e.g.

Default Ive been working on a blues americana epic

you record at home?

Ive been working forever on an americana project from delta roots to johnny winters
also including from bob dylan to jet or black keys Defimately john lee hooker

Im playing a gibsons in drop d through a vox amp (distortion optional)
sometimes thumb style,. fills and riffs, rockin out

I cannot source any good drum tracks for this stuff
I am despereate for 32 bar loops.
you got any non- cliche blues rock stuff around?
I can bank transfer you some $$

That's awesome, all the stuff we are writing right now is in drop C#.

I record at home with Reaper. I would be happy to work on some stuff with you. Can you record a scratch track of the song to a click? Even if it's not perfect it will give me an idea of the feel your going for. Just let me know BPM and any ideas you may have for feel or open.

I can record drums and send you each track individual and include the MIDI file so you can edit or modify anything you like or don't like. I can set up a Google Share for use to exchange files. Let me know what samperate and bit-depth you prefer. I typically work in 92k/24bit.

Cheers

Man I love that the 70's Sabbath sound is back! Slow, dark and heavy distortion... add some trippy, psychedelics in there and you got a new/old sound. I dig it.

Default Dude thats the best

I record at home with Reaper too. I ve got examples from 3 years ago
but Im doing different stlyes now
Im still figuring this stuff out, its mainly a delta drone electrified
but I just need anything btwn 85 - 116 thats not a cliche

Can you record a scratch track of the song to a click?

its more like 150 riffs than a particular song

sure ill spend nxt week on the guitar and send you the results
its all work in progress so just give me back a solid beat back
and ill go from there

...theres just a total lack of delta blues or electric blues
out there thats not 12 bar or swing cliche ,..

I like to push the envelope but Im thinking your now these beats better than I do

It would be easier for you than trying to write together
as my writing process takes itterations and development

Let me know what samperate and bit-depth you prefer.
I typically work in 32/48

If you can send you each track individual and include the MIDI file so I can edit or modify anything
I can set up a Google Share for use to exchange files.
*I have google drive

you have made my day, dude
shoot me a pm and ill email you

ok, hit me up when you have a couple tracks.

I'm not sure what 32/48 would be? I meant to type 96k Sample rate and 24-bit depth.

Anything you can send me will help me figure out what to give you, even if it's just a collection of riff ideas. When it comes to blues and beats, they are all kind of cliche in a way or else it wouldn't be blues.

Anyway, I have a couple new ones that I need to record for Whiskey Point and that should give you some time to get a couple ideas down and we can go from there.

Don't worry about several iterations, it's the nature of not being able to get in the same room for a few days and cranking out songs. We pass the same song back and forth several times.

Cheers

That's a really great song with great lyrics! I really ding the style1

As stated higher up, the mix is fine, but the guitar solos need to go up a bit in the mix, IMHO.. Aside from that,, Grat job!

Thanks for all the feedback, and most of all thank you all for listening.

It can be an unnerving experience to release music to the wild. Sending something out that you wrote and worked so hard on after spending a lifetime at your instrument. I think it probably applies to any artist but especially music. Like all art it's such a personal thing but everyone has an opinion about music they like and you can bet some will hate it and let you know about it, haha.

My philosophy has always been, if i can just get it out there and one person, a total stranger, actually likes it, then it was a huge success! Its the whole point of making music to me. It may sound corny as hell but..

seriously, thank you for listening.

There are many more to come, we are tracking vocals for our latest one tonight. Cheers!

Excellent tunes and recording quality on both tracks.
And consistent style and delivery.
The band locks into the groove...especially the drums and bass...very nice.

One suggestion...since the drum/ bass lock is spot on, if the guitar and vocal were a bit more...(not quite sure how to explain this so I'll throw out a few adjectives) unrestrained, mildly crazy, off the beat but in the groove.

I'm hearing the melody matching the beat rather that working off the beat. Add a vocal triplett here and there. Hold off with phrasing and add spaces within the melody that create tension in the delivery. When I hear what I did not expect to hear...it can be very exciting.

But with that being said...love what you are doing!

Cool song Chip. I dig your snare sound. I really liked the change in the middle of the second song.

Heavy blues - cool, no frills no crap. Just what you'd want from a three piece band down the pub.
