Tip needed: How to open Reaper with blank project SOMETIMES
In general, I prefer the setting of "open last project" when Reaper opens. However, sometimes I'd like to start up Reaper with a fresh new project, and not have it load up the previous project (precious seconds of my life, gone!). Is there a way I can make a desktop shortcut with this command in it?
Is it possible to have my cake AND eat it to?
Thanks for your help.

Possibly a shortcut with this switch:
reaper.exe -new
Found by running reaper.exe /?

Holding down shift while starting up Reaper will give you a new, clean project.

My Reaper program always open with a blank project. Where do you have to go to get it to open last project at the start-up?

Is there a way to open REAPER without any project open, including a blank one? Or does it require some sort of project to be open at all times?

do you use windows? Nicholas posted some weeks ago this tip and I never be the same:
rightclick reaper if it is docked on your windows bar
(shows last open project and if you want start with a blank just open as normally )

That "start reaper while holding down shift" does not work for me unfortunately. And if I have a Reaper instance open and start another one with "-new" it will only add another empty tab to the already open instance.
Isn't there a way to reliably start a new blank reaper instance?
Thanks for your input.

Hasn't everyone been just directly double clicking on the document files to open their parent app and load them since 1982?
Guess not!

That did not work - as I had guessed this opens the linked default.rpp in a new tab but not in a new instance of reaper...

If reaper isn't open already it should just open the selected project, maybe not if "last project tabs" is enabled.
you might want to change your startup settings to something like Prompt and then you can choose to open empty or recent project

Thanks, that is what I did already but I guessed there should be a more direct way. In another thread I read shift-strg or the other way round while opening reaper but that seems to work only randomly... Or i am holding it wrong 😅

There's a setting in Preferences > General > Check for multiple instances when launching
Haven't tested myself but you may try disabling it if enabled and see if it works then.
