Classic administrator... Did you contact your help desk?

I'm sure there is some setting in Windows defender that's doing the blocking. I'll install Windows11 when I find the time for it.

Does this pop up after REAPER closes and tries to install the new version or does it prevent the download completely?

Thank you very much for this script, it's great.

I have two questions:

1) What options are checked when installing an update compared to a manual installation?

2) Can you increase the font size when resizing the script window, please? The readability would be much improved for 4K monitor users.

Your welcome

1) It tries to use the same options you had previously selected for that REAPER installation (the one you're running the script in). So if you're running a portable install it should update that portable install. I don't recall if there were installer options that couldn't be matched.

2) Can you please send a screenshot?

1) It's just perfect so I don't have to worry about that. It's just as if I launched the manual installer and just clicked next, next, next, install.

2) yes, for sure. Here are two images, one with the default size, and the other one with a big size. You can see that everything is bigger except the font:





Also, it would be nice if the script could remember our custom size.

I was wondering how to do the post-install hooks with your script to change the REAPER icon to one of these when updating.

Can you please walk me through the steps 🙏

Create a new file named "__update.sh" in your Scripts folder and add this content:

#!/bin/sh
cp "/REPLACE/ME/WITH/PATH/TO/reapertips1.icns" "/Applications/REAPER.app/Contents/Resources/main-mac.icns"

Replace the path in the above code with the path to your .icns file.

This will copy your icon to the Application folder after installation (and before restarting REAPER). Not sure what else needs to be done on MacOS to make the docker icon change. Didn't work great in my tests. The app icon changed, but not the docker icon.

(Btw, update to newest version before trying. I found a bug with hooks on MacOS)

This is amaziiing. I've always avoided using or creating these custom icons cause it's a pain to have to put back every time.

The process would be identical on Windows? but instead of using icns, use ico, right?

No, unfortunately not. The installation path is different on every OS. Windows needs a .bat script and then there's also portable installs (no clue how it works with them)

I can send you a script that will work on most Windows installs if you want

Edit: hmm, I'll check if it makes sense to add a script option for this

Turns out I can't, thought it would be similar to MacOS. No clue how to change the icon in Windows... I'm a proper Windows noob at this point😅

Look for it in your Action list (Menubar > Actions > Show action list).

This is accessible in the script menu, so you have to run the script via action list first.

My reaper is in portable install if that matters, when i imported the script, the status bar just filled up halfway. I can't find the script, I've been searching even before i asked the question. Attached a screenshot. Thank you for being patient.

Then you haven't imported the script. I highly recommend installing it through ReaPack.

If you only added my repository in ReaPack, make sure to install the script under Menubar > Extensions > ReaPack > Browse Packages.

I've the latest version and the default reaper prompt for new version works, so I guess it's not a network issue on my side (but not totaly sure)

Did it work before? You're on Linux, right?

Does running this throw an error in the terminal?

echo check_update > /tmp/reaper_uutil_step.txt

To get out of initialization stage, all that needs to happen is that the script can read/write to this file (/tmp/reaper_uutil_step.txt). Maybe you have altered permissions to your /tmp directory?

Edit: Nvm, that looks like Windows. Can you add "or true" to line 79 like this?:

function print(msg, force)
    if settings.debug_console.enabled or force or true then

Then run the script and send the console output?

Thx, that's the issue actually (that the error is in french). There's already a fix for the english error message. This fix is apparently necessary when the home directory is set to a network drive.

Could you please check if this works? (I made it somewhat language-agnostic but I don't have a network drive to test)

Replace line 109 with this:

Nice, fix is online in v1.9.2.

I also added an internal timer to only allow a single update check every three minutes (in startup notification mode). This script has seemingly grown in popularity so the point is to avoid spamming the servers when repeatedly restarting REAPER for whatever reason.
