Default Track Recordings Won't Separate?

Hello All,

Definitely new to Reaper with what is likely a stupid problem, but I've been watching tutorials for two days an cannot find an answer. So help would be VERY appreciated.

I recorded a guitar track, a section of song. I recorded the next section on the same track. Where the two tracks overlap, they seem to be joined and cannot be manipulated, deleted or moved separately. I've almost driven myself crazy trying to figure out why in the world that happens.

Like I said, thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Welcome to the forums. If you haven't already done so, you should grab the free, and most excellent, Reaper guide.

I think you've probably overlapped items in the take system. (Don't worry if you don't know what that means at this point.) Try this: Select all your items, then right on click on one of them and choose: Take>Explode all takes to new tracks. See if that does anything for you.

Default Thank You!

Hello and thank you for your help!

I've learned so much since I asked the question that my mind is spinning. That was a setting, something to the effect of "layer tracks" which was not default. I am used to seeing it that way since Sonar 5. I understand what the "take" system is, very cool, I'm just used to sometimes laying harmonies within the same track (which I still havent figured out...if thats even possible).

Again, I am really grateful for the help!
