Website search works ONLY for single words!
Hi,
I have a MIDI controller called, "Hot Hand", and I wanted to see if anyone else here might have mentioned using one.
However, the website search DOESN'T allow me to search for, "Hot Hand", as a phrase.
The results give me posts with the word, "hand"...which are unrelated.
Am I missing something, or is the search capability of this website, in dire need of improvement?
Regards,
K8ch

The search capability of this website, in dire need of improvement. But I think it has this in common with all sites that use the vBulletin engine.
I use instead in Chrome 'site:forum.cockos.com "hot hands"'
I have that set up so I just type 'rea "hot hands"' in the address bar. I don't remember exactly now how to set that up, but you can google it.
BTW...
I found these two, both initiated by you:

Also, Google custom search engine:

(I think this is similar to what Fabian uses, with site:forum.cockos.com already predefined.)

Okay...I'm not entirely familiar w/the way you've typed the search command.
I've seen it before, but haven't used it.
Truth be told, it's something I -SHOULD- learn and utilize as it's a smart thing to know.
However, I would think that it would be easy to search for a phrase, when one puts quotation marks around it...and that's all I was hoping for, frankly.
I didn't really want a homework assignment -even though it's for my own good.
I'd like to know more about the Google search page you'd sent me to.
I see it is specific to the Reaper website.
How did you do that???
Thank you for taking the time to respond!
Peace,
Keith

I bookmarked that link from another forum post here years ago.
I don't know how it was done originally, sorry.

I checked around for how to set things up in the way I have it, with just typing "rea" in the address bar and then Chrome automagically searches the Reaper Forum:
Code:
1. Go to Chrome Settings, click on the left "Search engine"
2. Click "Manage search engines"
3. For "Other search engines" click "Add" to the right
4. In the dialog box that appears, type on the respective lines (without the quotes):
"Reaper Forum"
"rea"
5. Save
Now, when you type "rea" in the address bar, followed by space, Chrome will write "Search Reaper Forum" and then let you input the search string, which will then be used in place of the %s in the search command.
Of course, the only really crucial thing is the third line, the actual search string. For the other two you can input whatever you want to use as keyword and heading.
