Default Newcomer spatial microphone

SPC Microphones is a newcomer to me. I don't know much about their microphone and it's a different beast, with 84 MEMS capsules. Most ambisonic mics are ball-shaped, this one is planar. An array. Besides spatial, it also seems to have a "long distance" mode. It obviously comes with software for Linux, Mac and Windows.

I just learned of this one yesterday. It certainly looks like a beast, and so low profile compared to other HOA mics. Are the audio examples on the Harpex site actual samples from the development of this mic or just one like it?

«All recordings were done with a prototype array having 84 IM69D130 microphones on a 17 cm diameter baffle»

Thx for the comments, guys.

So it's developed by Harpex. Definitely among the "good guys", in my book.

Default Current status

Hi there,

I have had the opportunity to use the spcmic for a series of recordings and am extremely impressed. IMHO it is a game changer. Check out some links here:

And here is a clip where you see it being used to record one of my gigs in Lisbon:

Cheers,
