Default Peace_MOD: modified fork of Peace, by Ice Cold Milk

Peace, by Ice Cold Milk (forum link) is an excellent theme for REAPER. I've been performing some updates and modifications to the layout and graphics which, I hope, make it even better.

Those changes include:
- graphics for pan/width to improve legibility
- time signature and rate controls
- TCP track tinting
- nicer TCP volume knobs
- several changes to the TCP to maximize space usage and control access at various heights
- improved fx param/send appearance
- meter color and spacing updates for the MCP
- improved transport layout
- sharpened images
- support for embedded plugin interfaces in the TCP
- label-on-bottom MCP layouts
- Theme Adjuster support
- WALTER cleanup and consolidation

You can find the source code/images on Github.

The current release (v1.7.4, 17.12.2023) is here: https://github.com/jeremybernstein/R...ses/tag/v1.7.4,or available via ReaPack (link in my sig -- be sure to enable beta updates for the package if you want the latest).

(the theme file in my fork is called Peace_MOD).

If you enjoy the theme, or my modifications, please consider supporting the author, Ice Cold Milk. Details are on his stash page for the theme. Thanks again for this inspiring work.

Thanks to Ice Cold Milk and to you for continuing this theme. Glad to see version control as they were coming quickly. Thanks again and keep up the great work.

That's perfect - thank you so much!
I couldn't get the track tinting to work - the only thing that changes is the track name label. Am I missing something?
I also couldn't figure out how to get the VU meters to show up.

Help will be much appreciated!

For track tinting, you probably just need to set this:

Not sure what you mean about the VU meters, can you explain with a picture?

Thanks so much!
Works like a charm.

About the VU meters - I saw this in a message you posted in the original peace theme thread. I'm talking about the meters that show up on the right side of the tcp.

Those are juat track icons, not actual VU meters.

Track name, fader (should turn to a knob for small size TCP\MCP) and meters + Mute\Solo should always be the last elements to get overlaid by the arranger window's edge.

Track name + Fader\Knob the very last.

I see in your script Pan, Width and FX elements stay till very end. Not needed really... for extreme shrinking of TCP\MCP.

If I had to design a theme or mod of theme (which won't happen as I do not bow to WALTER), I would have started with the least height (that would be track name font size... 3mm to 4mm high letters), maybe the min. TCP height about 5mm (when not collapsed in a folder track!).

And go from there.

I would have wrapped all the elements to stay in the middle of a track height (TCP that is; not sure whether applicable for MCP).

Then lay out the rest important things:
1. volume knob
2. Mute\Solo
3. Rec-arm + in-FX
4. track-FX + polarity-flip
5. Pan\Width\Automation
6. Routing

that is had I kept the same min. height and just elongating the TCP (dragging the edge of arranger window to the right).

That would be "layout min. height" of sort.

If at any moment I had increased the track's height then: vertical justification to start when those elements had appeared in a vertical columns (2 should be enough to see that one might be partially covered by arranger's window edge).

Of course if width of TCP gets increased, then about 3 columns should be enough, beneath the track name field.

Not sure whether WALTER allows for hide\show on right click... probably not.

Feel free! If I have a chance to take a closer look, I will, but I'm probably going to let things settle for a little bit, after a lot of fast changes over the past few weeks.

On top of that I wish some features to be implemented or others (existing ones!) just rearranged in terms of UI for basic audio import, measurement, signal routing work.

I am afraid that such cluster of features would require a somehow complete rethinking of a DAW. Some might say mod or overhaul. I wish I had the skills to do it.

Hello just a small detail that I saw, is it possible to hide the letter "t" and show only the envelope icon so it has the same size as the rest icons?

I'll check that out today, not sure how that happened, but it's a bug!

Somehow I would prefer to be visible when the fx slots are visible too.

I don't know -- I don't have that on my meters. Maybe check your Master VU Settings or your Appearance prefs?

Default Folder Track Index Bug

Great job with the modifications!

Is this a bug that the folder track index is being squashed by the icon?

I actually don't mind the hiding of the icon, but the functionality also was removed with it.

There's no way to show the icon in a smaller size, nor to include the functionality without showing the icon. So I went for killing the icon and functionality together at that height. It was the only solution I could find which made practical sense...

EDIT: Ah forget it, I figured out how to properly scale the icon. This will be fixed in a less aggressive way between now and tomorrow.

Quite a bad mockup, but could the fx list be on the right side aswell?

It's certainly possible, but would involve some work. If I'm the one working on it, probably later than sooner. :-)

Yes, that would have been really neat!
Closer to a Pro Tools feel.
Loving the theme as is though.

Sure - Here's a screen grab. The Folder Collapse Icon is the same size regardless of the folder sizing. I'm not getting the scaling you demonstrate. Like I stated no big deal as it works fine, just doesn't scale.

I can reproduce on my Win10 system. Also weird is that I can't make the tracks smaller than the "3 rows of stuff" height using the mouse, I have to use key commands to make it smaller.

This works absolutely fine on macOS, so there's platform difference I wasn't aware of and for which I'm not accounting. If I even can?! I'll investigate further later tonight or tomorrow, thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Hi.
Thanks again for the great work!

There's some weirdness with dual pan mode (separate L and R panning).

Here's a gif showing the issue - MCP on the left, TCP on the right

On the TCP, the right (bottom) "fader" should act just like the left (top) fader, only in reverse. Not sure if that's possible, but if so that would be great.

On the MCP there seems to be something else going on - some kind of red/green overlay.

Here's a pre-release to try out. The way to make this work in WALTER involves using graphics with slightly different dimensions to swap out behaviors (so that the width slider can become a pan slider in dual pan mode), so there are some very subtle positioning and width changes as you move between pan modes. My OCD can live with it so far -- can yours?

Looks good. I rarely use Dual Pan but this is an improvement over what was happening. Here's a screen grab to also show the Width Setting in the Master fader of the MCP. Can it be made to look the same as the Width in the Channel strip, i.e. fill the whole bar instead of to the right? (Track 5 and the Master are set to Stereo Balance/Mono Pan).

Thanks.

Ah crap, I thought I solved that case. I'll post an update later on.

EDIT: in fact it works for me on macOS. What's your system spec?

In fact, it works for me on both macOS and Windows 10, both release and +dev. So I'll need more information in order to clean this up. Thanks!
