ATK reaper Zoom, Press, Push, Focus
Looking through some documentation for this, but it doesn't quite explain what it does.
What does Zoom, Focus and Press, Push really do? The MTF video has some information, but what does everyone else think it does? |

Just to get folks to try it out, zoom/focus, with focus, whereever the cursor is placed. these frequencies in that area is accentuated.
With press/push, the closer the cursor is placed to the edge of the circle, the soundstage gets squeezed towards that direction, with the impression that the soundstage width has collapsed into a beam of sound coming in that direction. |

ATK pdf from the ambisonic toolkit website, section 4.2.3 describes what they do.
Basically they either take all directional planewaves and either push them in a particular direction or they focus on the planewaves coming from a particular direction. It's super useful and somewhat unique among the existing ambisonic transforms.

It's not entirely clear to me what it all means, which is why a canvassing of qualitative opinions would be much better.
For instance the zoom and focus. He says 'Focus maintains the gain forward at 0db. Zoom however increases gain in the direction of interest and maintains gain perpendicular to this direction.' In the MTF video https://youtu.be/_da97ALqAY4?t=644 there's a demo, but still it would be nice to get opinions. |
