Default value readout of plugins that don't offer value readout...

hi all...

in studio one there's a great feature. it's a tiny one, yet it's a huge helper:
studio one _always_ shows you values of a parameter, when adjusting - even if the plugin in question doesn't. now is there a way in reaper to have that, too? like a script or an extension? i'd like to work rather exact, and in studio one that feature was god-sent to me, when i had to work with plugins that don't offer readouts of their parameters... simply every parameter that is touched - not even moved - shows up and gives you insight. i'd love something like that in reaper...

There is an option to switch from the VST GUI to a "generic" GUI with sliders for each VST parameter (it looks just like the GUI for JSFX). I'm not at Reaper now, so can't give you exact details -- but it is somewhere near the upper-right corner of the FX window.

If you choose that option, not only can you see the value for each parameter, but I'm pretty sure you can manually enter values instead of using the sliders (good for setting the exact value you want to use).

Unfortunately that doesn't work so. The parameter value in the generic UI is just a read-only label. (The plugin formats, at least VST2, don't have support for converting a user entered text into the internal parameter value, so even if the generic UI allowed entering the parameter values, they would all need to be in the range 0.0...1.0 which isn't very user friendly.)

hi thanks for the answer - i know that. but for quite some plugins there's too many parameters to work with just the sliders... i was hoping fo a script os an extension, which allows for a simple parameter value readout... there's so much space in the transport area, it could be easily be placed there...

Can you tell us some plug-ins which show that behaviour is Studio One, but not in Reaper?

Thanks for the correction. I almost never use that feature, and wasn't sure. That's what I get for trying to answer a question from work instead of from home (where Reaper is).

sure. it's with _every_ parameter you touch, on _every_ plugin. here:
