Default Plugin that nails the bright SVT bass sound?

Is there a plugin that can actually get that sort of Ampeg SVT bass tone? To hear what I mean, search youtube for 'Nirvana isolated bass' for some pretty good examples. Amplitube is fail at this. If you have a plugin that does it, please post a sound clip. I'm not finding any sound example out there for any plugin that gets this sort of bass tone.

Nevermind was the album Krist Novoselic used an SVT, but it was a blend of DI, or maybe even all taken DI from the amp, and also a Rat distortion pedal.

https://www.bassplayer.com/artists/o...ders-of-giants

I actually like the Amplitude SVT heads (the only Amplitude models I like), but always use RedWirez 8x10 IR's with them instead of the IK cabs.

I've never used a real SVT, so I couldn't tell you how close it gets, but a distortion pedal with extra top boost before the sim sounds likely how you'd go about getting that bright sound.

I just today got an email from Plugin Alliance for something called: Ampeg V-4B, which states that it is " an amazing reissue of the 1971 original SVT and delivers a thick tube tone with an uncompromising low end". I did not check this out but it may be on sale:

https://www.plugin-alliance.com/en/p...ampeg_v4b.html

Might be worth a try, I dunno.

It's available for demo but no price yet. It's the same as their UAD version, I think. They usually have intro offers.

Yes, absolutely 100% the most amazing SVT sim I've used is included in the Will Putney Tonality plugin from STL Tones. The stock IR actually has a slight bit of room in it too which I find very pleasing on bass. The amp controls respond exactly as I expect.
I would be happy to run a DI through a few different tones for you if you like.

I bet if you HAD to use Amplitube you could make it work

Start with downloading that bass sound and look at it on a spectrum analyzer, take note of where the peaks and valleys in the frequency response are

I'm willing to bet theres a big dip in the low mids and a nice treble peak around 3-4khz

And since its a finished bass sound youll need to add some compression on your end to match the dynamics

I don't know about the VST sound, but I will +1 on Bass Professor II. It has a "profess" slider that does mysterious good things, a "dirt" slider, 7-band eq, and other cool features. It makes the ordinary direct bass sound extraordinary. Free and most cool. And JS, so it works in Linux.

Just checking out Sonic Anomaly Bass Professor(s). Very cool, especially for a freely available jsfx plugin. And I just realized that Sonic Anomaly also did S.L.A.X. Where is the 'Buy this person a beer' button? I think after putting some new strings on my bass, I'll be in business....I never changed them since I bought the bass, which I think was about 10 years ago now.

Bass Professor MKII is another one of my favorites. It was the first plugin to make me realize how powerful JS can be in the right hands.

This one beats my Bias Amp 2 and TH3 SVT emulations.
By far the best free guitar/bass amp vst.

I would say that one beats a lot of paid amp sims. I can get better sounds and less fizzy for guitars and bass.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. This is what I got at the moment (just playing along with ezdrummer MIDI): https://app.box.com/s/d1ywz1pvsnxy1l5csi91dc1cp2u1vdqn Edit: Pushed the bass up and drums down a bit.

Still pretty dark, but I'll need to change those 10 years old strings to brighten it up. That is Bass Professor II with some parallel compression.

Hey I've been focused on BASS TONE for a long time. I got excited about the Bass Professor plugins mentioned here and installed them. I was disappointed - quite noisy, and I have done much better with only 2 key plugins:
1. JS Convolution (part of REAPER suite), set to Dumble Overdrive Special with impulse set to 6-7.
2. Thrillseeker VBL Gain=1100-1200, Comp=1100-1200, Amp=900 (clock face settings)
3. ReaEQ as needed.

I have owned & used a blue line SVT and a few other bass amps so I know what I like. My Holy Grail targets are John Entwhistle's live sound, DUg Pinnick, and Billy Sheehan (to a lesser degree, I find his tone way too midrangey) OF COURSE fresher roundwounds are a must.
I always record 2 channels DI, one with just the first 2 plugins from a low output single coil neck pickup, and the other with Eq added from the thicker sounding bridge pickup. Scooped around 1 KHz. Slightly panned stereo bass, and it sounds awesome.

There, my secrets are out there now!!!

Not a plugin, but I've been using one of these Digitech BP200 hardware bass amp and speaker modelers for almost twenty years. Uses ZERO time on the CPU.

I leave it on a SWR bass amp model with an eight 10" speaker cab model, but there are two Ampeg SVT models barking and regular, along with some others (Bassman, Sunn, Ashdown, Etc.)

I used it on every song on my music page, but with several different basses. Stingray, Gretsch Jet, Warwick, Etc.

Some sound clips would be helpful, fellas. The only sound I have heard in this thread came from McPBrain via pm, which is helpful to me but not to anyone else who might read this thread.

Plug&Mix's Basspeg is pretty good for summoning the SVT vibe.

Their UAD Ampeg sims are very highly regarded.

If you notice the top right corner, it was modelled by this guy: https://www.nembriniaudio.com

I've had great luck with the Thermionik "Amped Bass" plugin, which comes with the Thermionik suite.

On the hardware side, I played bass at a friend's studio the other day, and he sent my signal through a Line 6 Bass Pod Pro rack unit just for monitoring, and everybody was pretty surprised by how awesome it sounded. It was a nice SVT-type tone with good growl and just a teeny hint of breakup. I now am trolling craigslist for one.

It's brand new. They're overhauling the service I guess and by July 15 prices will be posted. You're supposed to demo for now.

I plugged into one of my guitar amps today with just a bit of gain and sent the signal to a line in via the line out on my attenuator/dummy load. It has been the best sound so far. I may just have to find a 2x10 cab to mic up.

I don't know, you don't only have those 2 weeks to demo it, and after you've demoed it you don't *have* to buy it either. And it's not like the price would be any different if they didn't give the two weeks beforehand.

Completely anecdotal and in no way a plugin, the best bass tone I ever got was blending the DI coming in pretty hot through a Universal Audio 610 pre blended with a tiny little Vox AC-4 tube amp on the 1-watt setting cranked.

It fit in the mix perfectly and had a NASTY grind that I loved. (band was very similar to Nirvana)

Back on topic, I also dig the Sonic Anomaly Bass professor plugs.

I know, but it's not like they don't know how much they are going to sell it for. Just seems a bit odd. They obviously want to generate interest before announcing the price, which makes it seem as if the price would be off-putting.

I never demo them during the pre-release period, because cost is a factor for me so until I know how much it is going to be it seems pointless trying it.

That's just me though.

Me too, of every (or any) suggestion in this thread. Seems odd that there are over 10 suggestions in this thread for plugins and zero sound clips. Although I did receive a pm from one member with some sound clips.

Well, still not a plugin and still an out of production unit, I decided to compare the primary model of an Ampeg and eight 10" speaker model using my Digitech BP200 (zero CPU usage).

As I mentioned before I keep that unit on an SWR model that I really like for bass, but did this direct vs BP200 test coz I hadn't checked out the Ampeg model in quite a while. There are no FX whatsoever used on this. Bass is plugged straight into the BP200 then to the audio interface, bypassed then played through.

I've been messing with this for a week. I found putting TSE's BOD in front of Amplitube or BIAS Amp 2 makes a big difference. I also tried Helix Native with the Bass Professor in front with good results. I used only the stock cabs in each, but with two mics and/or two cabs

The ADHD Limiter and Kazrog's True Iron were also important parts of the chain.

While I know that the ask was for VST, have you heard of the Ampeg Classic Analog Bass Preamp?

To me, it covers quite a bit of that ground that you mentioned. Here's a demo clip(keep your ears out for the Men At Work...)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgNl_KmDfvE

I think that it's a bit over a hundred bucks, and it seems like they put some thought into how to get a lot of the functionality into a pretty small enclosure.

This one is the company pitch.
