Default Arturia - Three Filters, No Sound?

I swear I'm missing something simple...

Symptom: Whenever I add one the the Auturia plug-ins (from the "Three Filters You'll Actually Use" pack), the track audio dies.

Reproduction:
1) Add audio (or VSTi) to a track. Confirm audio to monitors. All good.
2) Add any of the the three plugins to the track (VST or VST3)

Expected results: Audio (with some kind of wonderful step filter effect)
Actual results: No audio, sad panda

EDIT: Work-around available: Change from ASIO to WaveOut in Reaper settings. ASIOforAll also resolves.
EDIT: Root cause most likely Audient 3.2 ASIO drivers.

Additional information:
- The plugins work ok in Wavelab (but are arguably not suitable for mastering)
- Auturia synths work fine
- Various plugins from other mfg work fine
- Have attempted:
--- Reinstalation of plugins
--- Reinstalation of Reaper
--- Tested in Reaper 5.978 - 5.980
--- Reboot
--- Deletion of C:\Program Data\<Plugin path>\TMP folder contents
--- Checking routing within Reaper (simple 2 in/out channel)
--- Setting various plugin compatibility settings
--- Clearing and re-scanning plugins

Variables:
- This is a fresh, vanilla Win1064 (19H1) install
- Only delta from Auturia default install is custom VST plugin paths

Anyone have any idears? I'm scratching my head here...

EDIT:
Also confirmed mute isn't caused by the 18dB overage (i.e. Reaper auto-mute protection)
44.1kHz sample rate, plenty of buffer (only mixing right now)

Hmm ...

I just checked, and all three of them are working fine here (Reaper 5.980, Windows 10/64 latest 1903 build).

I looked around a bit, but I don't see anything obvious that would produce what you are experiencing.

Yes! Thus my dilemma, everything ... seems... fine. Just no sound. No meters, other tracks run along fine.

It reminds me of that South Park episode, where maybe I just can't hear it...

I do have a ticket open with Arturia, will reply here if a solution presents itself.

Does the sound come back if you bypass the plugin?

Perhaps you could compress a simple problem project file (no audio samples needed) into a ZIP file and post it here as an attachment so that we can have a look at it and see what's (not) happening?

How to post attachments (in Post #1)

Yep, and if I use reaper's wet/dry knob, the dry is fine. (The plugin wet/dry doesn't work).

Thanks for the offer. Please see attached.

Add some audio to track 1, which has one of the plugins as the only effect. All faders at 0, etc.

Do you have a VST2 (or VST) version of the Filter (rather than the VST3 version) that you can try?

(I don't have those filters, but someone-else will have them.)

Both are installed and have tried both... Also attempted swapping between the 32-bit and 64-bit versions...

As an update, switching my audio system setting in Reaper from ASIO to WaveOut resolved the symptom.

So now the Audient iD14 is suspect... Very curious how the ASIO driver can dictate the operation of a specific plugin without impacting the host engine...

</rubs chin>

Any thoughts?

Some questions. do you see the audio level on the meters in
-- Reaper/Arturia filter with ASIO driver?
-- Reaper/Arturia filter with WaveOut driver?
-- WaveLab/Arturia filter with ASIO driver?
-- WaveLab/Arturia filter with WaveOut driver?

It seems very unlikely to me that an audio driver can mute (discard) the audio from one plug-in and not another.

Agreed. I don't even see how that's possible, but I also don't write hardware drivers for a living

Let me run a few tests tonight to confirm... Arturia support replied (who have also been looking at this thread) and agree it's a driver issue. They suggested trying ASIOforAll if Audient doesn't have something more current.

Just to be complete and *not* that I think it's the same case here but I have at least two /plugins/ that won't pass audio under certain conditions:

VOS plugins: They will work then just randomly stop passing audio until reloaded.

Voxengo Pristine Space will refuse to pass audio if the buffer isn't a power of 2 (IIRC).

So yea, not sure it's actually the audio driver.

In both of the above scenarios all other plugins pass audio and work.

Behold... test results

Wavelab: All drivers worked (Audient ASIO 3.2.0, ASIOforALL 2.14, and Windows MME)
Reaper: All except the Audient 3.2 driver worked

Interestingly, meters for plugins up to the Arturia filter work fine, but the Arturia plugin itself is "frozen" (e.g. the sequencer has also stopped) and nothing past it gets any signal.

Note this is not the current version of the Audient driver, because my particular unit can't take a firmware update that supports the most current version (have to ship it to some dude).

Regardless, appears to be an issue with Audient driver 3.2 that I'll need to live with until I feel like shipping my IO off or getting something else...

Thanks everyone for the chimes!

Did you try changing the buffer size? I wonder what size lunker is using.

I'd give the problem to Arturia.

Good question.

I am using an M-Audio Fast Track Ultra interface its most recent ASIO drivers.

I use the smallest buffer size that it allows, which I think is 64 samples at 44.1 kHz and 128 samples at 96 kHz (which are the two sample rates I tried with these plugins).

I did, and I did (to Audient). Long and short, my Audient iD14 unit cannot take a firmware upgrade that enables the latest ASIO driver. Boo. I'd have to ship it somewhere for fixin', and ain't nobody got time for that.

I'll live with WaveOut/ASIOforAll for now. Maybe when I get a bunch of 'extra time' I'll deal with it...
