(solved) Megababy - trigger pattern change by MIDI note
Hi,
Anyone there who uses MEGABAY with the actual REAPER version (6.46 64 bit Windows) who could do a quick check, if you manage to perform pattern change by using a MIDI note, please?
This is why I'm asking:
I'm trying to set up a drum machine for practising purposes, according to Kenny Gioia's proposal in his "First Drum Machine Beat - Sequencer" video. The video was made on an older version of REAPER obviously.
I got the drum machine working, using my own drum samples, but I get stuck when changing the pattern by a MIDI note.
This MIDI note is "played" by an MIDI item in the very track the Megababy drum machine is placed in FX, just like in Kenny's example. (I tried in another track, too, but that's not the point, I guess).
If I change the pattern manually, by clicking on the pattern number, things work smoothly. Having a MIDI item trigger the pattern change, doesn't work, though.
Note settings are carefully checked, too, I'd say... MEGABABY uses C4 for pattern change as default and I used C4 note and up trying to change the pattern.
I rebuilt the drum machine from scratch with default settings a second time to avoid me having clicked on an undesired option by mistake, but nope, MEGABABY won't change the pattern.
The problem sits close to my screen, I guess...
Any hint would be apreciated
cheers and have a nice Sunday

Try different octave in your MIDI item, C3 or C5 instead of C4, becasue there is inconsistency what is C4 in fact
ADDITION: By the way, here is part of the Megababy JSFX code, where you can see, that default octave shift is -1, so that it takes note 60 as C3). Anyway try any octave combination to be sure by yourself, it's the best you can do.
Code:
...
octave_offset=-1; // Set this value as you prefer.
// It works the same way as "MIDI octave name display offset" in Reaper's preferences
// 1 : MIDI note 60 = C5
// 0 : MIDI note 60 = C4
// -1 : MIDI note 60 = C3 ...
...

you hit the spot, thanks a lot!
Indeed, using C5 instead of C4 does the job.
"There is inconsistency what C4 is" - man, this sentence shakes the foundations of a poor drummer's soul, who still feels very lost on a keyboard anyway... ;-) but I got your point.
If I had a keyboard connected, I would have probably realized myself. I thought I had played with the octave shifter in MEGABABY (the red one), but obviously not consistently enough.
Tip for others with the same problem: While editing the MIDI note in the MIDI editor, MEGABABY already reacts on the MIDI note changes. Bringing the note up and down with the mouse make MEGABABY change the pattern, once you are in the right octave.
Thanks again for for the quick tip!
cheers Funkydrum
