V4 Alpha 16
v4.0alpha16 - December 19 2010
+ Sends: fixed routing matrix tooltips for multichannel sends
+ Media properties: fixed editing multiple items when some but not all are loopable clones
+ Mouse modifiers: fixed autoseek behavior when left-click is set to marquee select
+ Mouse modifiers: item deselect always happens on mouseup rather than mousedown (todo similar for MIDI editor)
+ Mouse modifiers: shift+click to expand time selection works when pref is to move cursor on time selection change
+ Mouse modifiers: added right-click hand-scroll behavior in arrange view and MIDI editor
+ Mouse modifiers: preferences page marks behaviors that the user has changed from the factory default setting
+ MIDI editor: note painting improvements, added mouse modifier to paint a row of notes of the same pitch
+ MIDI editor: removed single-click-insert-delete option (this can now be done with mouse modifiers)
+ MIDI editor: added mouse modifier for right-click to erase notes immediately and suppress context menu
+ OSX: fixed right-click emulation in MIDI editor
+ Layouts: fixed layout support for some old themes that use mcp_altmeterpos
+ Automatic width control showing: do not show width control if layout defines logic for width
+ Better mixer updating (faster, less focus issues) on theme/layout, mixer flag, project tab, track visibility changes
+ ReaVerb: fixed potential bad memory accesses in ZL mode (thanks, nitpicker)

Track Manager refresh bug now gone! Track Manager shows tracks when opened.
(BUT... there is a slight delay. Track Manager opens, shows no tracks... several milliseconds later it refreshes with the tracks list)

MIDI note selection is buggy again:
-> select two notes
-> click one of them to unselect the other
=> doesn't work ...
FIXED (4.0alpha17)

Notes don't select when clicking them any more either. I need to click and drag across a note to select it. Ctrl+clicking selects them though.

Yes! I take it further, there could be a 'reset to default' for each page in the preferences. Or even a modifier+click on every setting to set it back to default.

This is perfect, thanks !
EDIT : Except in the midi editor the right click menu shows up if I perform quick right-click drag. I think once I've moved the cursor, the menu shouldn't show up on button up, right ? This works perfectly in arrange view.

I can confirm it's working here too now but does have a little delay, not really that bad though

Not working on items here, just selects the items (my left click = marquee select items and time)...works in empty track ok.

Only works in the ruler here, even with track: shift = default.

Nice! Can we add that to left click track/media items as well?
** Win modifier combinations on media items/tracks still not working for actions properly, they still select/deselect items etc

midi note painting
ummm... I do see the painting works better...so great...
but tell me anyone, ... do you actually use midi painting [I mean as it now functions in reaper]?
Maybe I'm just to clumbsy but I don't find it very usable as it is.
I'd like to... so ...do tell... how and what do YOU do with it?
PS... I do understand that in some other apps it can be VERY useful.

Unwanted behavior #1 (note pitch helper quirk):
The note pitch helper (the red tinting in the piano roll) should move along with the note (while holding down the mouse button), not after the mouse button is released.
Try FL Studio's MIDI editor and see the difference.

Unwanted behavior #2 (note resizing quirk):
Open the MIDI editor, set the grid division to 1/16 and draw a note. Then set the grid to 1/2. Now try to shorten the note ( resize it to the left). Instead of doing nothing (correct behavior), REAPER lengthens the note by 1/2 note. That's ugly

Now that's a completely different issue. Nice catch
There should be an option for that too (alternative note snapping behavior / override normal snapping).

Not at all, what you say it's OK. I actually deleted my post after reading your post again because I read it wrong. If you resize it to the LEFT then it should do nothing, as you said.

Now do the same, but instead of resizing the note to the left, resize it to the right. You will notice that it will NOT snap to grid, but extend by + 1/2 note.
Wouldn't you like the ability to override this behavior and resize the note to snap to the nearest grid line instead?
You can do this in FL Studio by holding the 'Alt' key while resizing a note, but the note still doesn't snap to the grid lines.
It would be nice to have more 'exclusive' features ('as seen in the REAPER MIDI editor')

Unwanted behavior #3 (snap to left of grid line):
REAPER likes to snap notes to the left of the grid line, which is unwanted behavior for some users (e.g. FL Studio doesn't do this). There should be an option to disable this as well.

Perhaps you had relative grid active. That's the intended bahaviour if that is checked.

Relative Grid is *not* checked.
Is there a separate 'relative grid' setting for the MIDI editor?

Inconsistency between main toolbar and floating toolbar for "cycle ripple edit mode"
Hi,
Currently "cycle ripple edit mode" in floating toolbar doesn't reflect the same icons as the main toolbar.
In main toolbar, "Cycle ripple edit mode" uses 3 png files to show between "Ripple off, Ripple on, Ripple all"
In floating toolbar, "Cycle ripple edit mode" only uses one png, depending on which one is selected.
Is it possible to pass the behavior from main toolbar into floating toolbar?
Once again, this seems to be a consistency issue. It should be standardized, so that we can get visual feedback from floating toolbars when using "cycle ripple edit mode" action.
Hope this gets approval! Thanks!

I can still reproduce the same bug as in previous Alpha: reaper doesn't remember last quantization settings.
1. Open MIDI item, select notes, open quantize window, set "strength" to eg. 87 percent. Click "OK", close window.
2. Open another MIDI item, select notes, open quantization window - strength slider is set to 100 percent :/

Bug, probably or an interesting behaviour.
During playback I can left-click to change the edit cursor position.
I have select_m+ts active in the media context and move_item in the media(bottom part) context.
Single-clicking in the select_m+ts context the edit cursor is actually placed, as is evident when I stop playback, but the cursor is not drawn. The click+drag works as expected. During playback the click-down to place the editor cursor is not observed either it seems, and I do know that some people like to edit during playback, including myself, so perhaps it should. It wouldn't break workflows in half, but there could be some mistakes the operator makes if editing doesn't behave the same.
Single-clicking in the move_item context produces half a cursor drawn, or rather only the part in the arrangement area. The part in the time ruler is left behind, but as soon as playback is stopped that is also drawn where the click was made.

You'd have to pick the same icon as is used in the main toolbar for that to work. If you have and it isn't, it's a bug.

It's not very useful now, agreed (well, maybe it's slightly useful if you have a swing grid set). But it allows for more interesting behaviors to be added in the future.

found a few Bugs,
1) clicking on midi notes dose not select them unless you try to move the midi note (default mapping)
2) the new "insert note" in the piano roll mappings dose not snap to grid, (Fixed in Alpha 17)

Thanks for replying.
I did pick the same icon. It just doesn't work. Guess it's a bug then. I've actually noticed bug since wayyyy back.
Chances for a fix is probably kinda slim, seeing how things are so busy with the more important stuff in alpha.
Would be nice to get a fix though.
