Default Take labels inconsistency in hiding/showing

When you have some takes in an item and you slowly raise that track's height, labels are not shown all at once. It is easier done when you have quite a lot of takes.

Seems rather normal to me, as the different heights of the lanes showed in your picture vary by 1 pixel : some are 36 pixels high and others, 35. From which, if the appearance Hide labels when media item take height is less than... option is set to 36, only the first ones will have a visible label.

After this, why some lanes are 35 pixels and others 36 ? Probably because there is a background calculation occuring that allows a smooth display of the lanes when the overall track height is varying. Otherwise, if all lanes were displayed with either 35 or 36 pixels, the display result would be an inacceptable jump, this one as important as the sum of the lanes to be displayed.

I know why it happens and that it is normal from technical point of view. But does not seem natural from GUI/aesthetics point of view.

Indeed, but well... How to solve this one ? Maybe by creating a tickable Always show take labels option in the preferences...

Or maybe to not take that 35px (or any set) threshold literally every time. If we are zooming in the height, the program could look at all items/takes with supposedly same height and keep labels hidden until all these items/takes are above 35px threshold and only then draw labels over all at once.

Btw, I have noticed this behavior also with single-take items on different tracks.

it's probably more elegant, but I guess that it would need more processing in the background. Don't know...

How did you test it ? Here, I put a MIDI item in two different tracks, selected them and used Alt-Drag to adjust the heights of both tracks and didn't see a clear artifact, but maybe this way isn't precise enough. I get the same result using the actions View : Increase/Decrease selected track heights a little bit, though...
