Dragging in the MIDI editor runs out of bars

In 402 pre 7 I have a track of midi notes up to say bar 28.
In the midi editor I right click on a piano key to select all the instances of a particular note the last instance of which happens to be in bar 26.
I then left click drag the selection but I cannot drag the selection past the end of bar 28 even though the project itself has other tracks that extend beyond that. I don't think I should have to manually extend the midi item to host the notes I'm dragging to a new location. It should happen automatically I feel.
