Default channel send\recieve is such a long process! solutions?

Hi,
I am using East West Symphonic Orchestra. The process I have to do so every midi track receives audio is:
*allow feedback between channels
*send midi from tracks to the vsti track
*change the received channels from "all" to 1-8
*receive audio from vsti track to all midi tracks
*change channels from "all" to 1-16 (stereo)
*turning off receive audio from all channels in vsti track, so no feedback occurs.
This whole process x4 if I'm using large sections.

There must be a shorter way of doing this!!

Hi,

Would it be feasible to spend time creating a project which could become a template, or is every project so different?

Personally, I would work up what I felt could be my most complex project, setting up instruments, busses, sends, all that stuff, perhaps create more that I need normally.

I would also look into creating track templates, too.

A pain at first but once set up each new project is a doddle.

Any tracks/instruments/busses that are surplus to requirements, either hide them or delete them from the project altogether.

cheers

andy

Studio setup before DAWs came along could take a fair bit of work, patching/adjustments/mic placements etc.
At least here and now you can do some of it just once for a particular requirement and then save it as a template.
I have however noticed that I often opt for setting up all I need from scratch, even though I may already have a template that is close enough.
I work/play differently and do not typically have loads of tracks/channels operational.
Sometime you will be able to instruct auto patching with voice commands....maybe?

If you didn't insist on creating feedback loops, it would be significantly easier. In fact, Reaper will build both sides of the routing for you automagically if you let it.

Create the sends like ashcat said from right clicking the VSTi and selecting 'Build multichannel routing for output of selected FX'

Then set up the MIDI routing to the VSTi track to the appropriate channels. No quick way to do this unfortunately.

The faster way if you have a keyboard with easy way to select what channel you're outputting is to set all the tracks sequentially to 1-16 input channels (select them all and sequential inputs will appear when you select the input) and set their record mode to MIDI latch-replace, so it only records if you press MIDI and only on tracks receiving that channel.

Why not just have a separate instance of Play on each midi track?

Sure there is. "Build 16 channels of MIDI routing to this track".

People don't like that, though, because you end up with twice as many tracks.

Why hot saving this whole process as a track preset?

Thanks for the tips guys. The real issue is when I import from midi from Sibelius, so most solutions won't be as effective.
I just recall that in Cubase it was much simpler somehow.

What does that mean?

It used to cost around $120 IIRC. But the creator switched to a donation model.

I can't claim to have the perfect solution, but when I import MIDI from a notation program, I usually let it import onto new tracks, and then just move each MIDI item to the correct track in the project template (which has all of the routings set up the way I want them).

I guess that would get tedious if you've got a score with lots and lots of MIDI tracks. But my scores are usually 16 staves or fewer, and it's much easier for me to just move 16 items to the correct tracks than it is to set up routings for the 16 new tracks that get created when I import MIDI.
