Xubuntu 22.04 - Real Time Kernel (out of the box)?
I'm about to do a fresh install on one of my laptops and remember talk in the old days (maybe even current) about having a real-time kernel. Is this still important? Does it ship with such?
This will be used for VSTi instruments (electric drums and pianos). |

I assume you're actually playing/recording midi in a live fashion? Because if you were only editing midi in the piano piano roll etc there would really be no need to worry about latency at all, imho.
I've never used any kind of special kernel, but I can still get relatively low latencies if I'm not straining the CPU. I very rarely do any live recording, though, so I mostly just use a large buffer size.
