Default A new reaper.

Will Reaper ver. 7 be out by the end of this year?

Does it matter?

Of course anyone with a v5/6 licence will need to buy a new one.

Reaper v6.0 was released December 3rd 2019. Reaper v6.5 was released March 3rd 2022, over 2 years later... so no, I don't think we will see v7.0 before the end of 2022. Granted, we had a small pandemic during that time, but I still don't expect to see v7.0 in 2022.

With the regular incremental updates that we get every couple of weeks or so (unlike much other software) does it really matter when the transition from 6.xx to 7.00 occurs?

... except for DarkStar's point that for some it will mean buying a new license.

It makes a lot of sense to know when version 7 will be released, because when I buy another license I want to be at the beginning of a version so I get the full two versions rather than 1 and 1/8 versions.

The only way to get 1 and 1/8 versions would be to wait until it comes out and then wait another 7/8ths of a cycle before buying.
You seem like a fairly regular forum user so I doubt you will miss it's release by that much time

Every little update of Reaper seems like a New Reaper.

If you search for new functions and tools from the past 2 years, it would be the equivalent of major releases in other DAWs.

I'm not buying until the time is right that I get 2 full versions.
At this time I have no urgency to buy a license. I will continue with my ver 5 license. Version 6 theme will work in version 5.

so you you have to wait till it is comming. But if you need another license, what are you thinking about? Cheaper than cheap will not be possible.

Reaper has a tendency to mither me when a new update is available, and it tells me the new version number. IIRC, it also mithers me when the license needs renewing.

I think it now has an anti-mither option.

@CDS

Since it looks like you bought your current licence during version 5, you are already covered until the end of version 6. In which case you will have another two new versions, regardless of the months weeks days or even seconds involved.

Look at it this way: You might have bought version 5 at 5.99999, but once you get past that initial hiccup, you always get two full versions anyway.

Plus of course Reaper is still pretty cheap compared to most of the other DAWs out there.

And other DAWs keep so much back for the next version full version. Reaper doesnt seems so concerned with that. Completely new features can drop at any time, making the round version numbers even less relevant.

I like this.

You mean the Cockos boys don't seem so concerned with that. I do that too.

Yeah it's incremental. New versions so far have not been game changers. Though I think they hold back just a little bit.

Ha Yes, I guess I shorthanded "the Reaper devs" to just Reaper A bit of hold back makes business sense.

Well I suppose you have to question the business wisdom behind calling a company Cock and the product Death.
The DAW for ultra militant misandrist feminist music producers!

So, who had "May 2022" in the "First thread about Reaper 7 coming out" pool?
