Seems to be no way to open multiple MIDI items at once
OK. One more.
This time, before posting, I did check Preferences. There is a setting for the behavior when double-clicking a media item. Here, I've selected "Open all selected MIDI items."
A double-click (obviously) consists of two clicks.
Now here's the punch line... the first click causes my selection to be forgotten (!??!!?)... then the second click opens only one item.
1. Right-click-drag to select several MIDI items. It doesn't matter if those items are in the same or different tracks -- same behavior in either case.
2. Double-click on one of the items.
2a. First click, it forgets the selection, and selects only the one that I clicked on.
2b. Second click, it indeed opens all of the selected MIDI items... but that's only one, now.
Here is where I have to admit that I'm really losing patience with the rough edges in the user interface. It's moderately irritating when the default behavior isn't what I want, but it's configurable -- that's at least fixable. This is a bit different category: the default behavior *is* what I want, but an over-eager click behavior breaks it.
(Yes, I'm already using the track list, so I can just show the items after opening the window. But, that's slower, and violates the UI design principle of making a selection before taking action, and anyway, why should users be working around this?)
