Oh, you mean mouse over states?

No, not forgotten, I personally just dont see any need for them, I designed the theme how I like to work, and I feel mouseovers, 'pre-touch' is just a confusing element that really serves no purpose.

I feel things get done quicker without them.

Default Alternate Master MCP

Hi vStyler,

Really like what you've done with this theme.
I wanted an alternate Master MCP with knobs.
My attempt is included.
If you are interested in including this in your theme, please do so.
I've included the rtconfig.txt section,
and the background images in this post(these can be better).

The images would be placed in the 'master-2' directory.

Layout "Master 2" "master-2"
set master.mcp.pan.fadermode [1]
set master.mcp.pan [9 3 96 29 0 0 0 0]
set master.mcp.pan.label [45 21 96 29 0 0 0 0]
set master.mcp.width.fadermode [1]
set master.mcp.width [60 3 96 29 0 0 0 0]
set master.mcp.width.label [95 22 96 29 0 0 0 0]
EndLayout

Can i place that code anywhere in the rtconfig, and then just make a folder called master 2 and drop the images in?

Almost, I've placed the code just before the "About Theme" "about" layout code.

The master-2 directory should be created in the RADO-V4 unpacked directory and the images inside that.

Thanx again for RADO-VOX

Cheers!

This has become my default theme. Man I have so much respect for what you guys are capable of doing. I do have a suggestion/request. I would love to see a simple version of the TCP where the button icons are under the track name. Since I have my mixer on a 2nd monitor, I don't use the horizontal meters on the TCP, or even the volume/pan. Even the simple layout has the buttons at the end of the trackname. So what I would love is the track name on top and the button icons below so I could read the whole name, and see the Mute/Solo/FX buttons but preserve as much space as possible for the item editing on the right. Kind of like NamcyC's edit to Rock Solid, but take the meter out and move the buttons down in its space. Is this even possible?
http://forum.cockos.com/showthread.php?t=89511&page=5
Thanks again for what you guys give to the community.

Thanks bigwoody, unfortunately, i wouldnt have a clue how to even start doing that, even tho a layout like that makes a lot of sense, maybe you could ask the guy that did the mod you referred to, if he would care to volunteer!

Cheers!

**UPDATE**

I have updated the original links with updates for both light and dark themes.

I have tweaked some dialog buttons to be easier to read, added a couple of FX buttons I had missed, corrected some states for auto-armed buttons and added volume button for clips, with correct volume indicator colors.

Thx to Breeder and Dr_after.

re-download from the same links in original post to update.

Cheers.!

Default Installation Instructions

Hi, your theme looks great, can't wait to try it. I downloaded it, but can't figure out how to complete the installation. Can you point me to the steps? I got as far as unzipping the file in my REAPER folder...

vStyler

today I was working with subtle volume changes and saw that your volume indication is only for rounded dB's.

I took the liberty to change this in your rtconfig.txt to:

mcp_voltext_flags 13
tcp_voltext_flags 13

this gives two digits behind the dot.

Human can only hear the difference in volume if it's minimum 1 dB, sometimes even more than that. So - Maybe decimals are only distracting us?

I think this 1dB rounding thing is ok when listening to a sound in isolation, but fractions of dB in track levels truly can make a difference in crowded mixes... here at least...

When you're towards the end of a mix, and very sensitive to all the subtleties of it, pushing the vocal 1/2db either way will DEFINITELY be noticeable to you.

This not at all true. Humans are actually very sensitive to amplitude/sound pressure level changes. We can easily detect a fraction of a dB, especially if trained and have a means of comparison.

Try this: Have a largish mix, say, 60+ tracks, now change 20 of those tracks volume down by -0.1 dB, 20 tracks up +0.1dB and leave the rest as they are. Compensate for any apparent overall volume changes.

Now notice how the mix completely changes in the way it flows (of course depending on what instruments you actually changed).

1dB is a relatively LARGE change depending on instruments. It also is highly frequency dependent. If you change a track which has dominant frequencies around 1 to 4khz you will immediately notice that change and think it is rather obvious. Now do the same for stuff which contains mainly 10-20khz (cymbal sizzles, reverb tail sizzle, "sparkle tracks") and it's less obvious, same with mainly bass and sub bass tracks.

I definitely work with 0.1 s of dB's when mixing. Definitely. And I do hear it. And when I want to work with 0.3dB as max volume and not have any + dBs it's quite nice to have precise indicator.

What also irritated me was the fact that from 0dB downward you can move the rotator or fader substantially before any change is noticable in the indicator. But I changed it myself and I'm happy now. The theme is very good!

Is it not far more significant that we work on sound with out ears rather than our eyes?
Bemused by all the anality about .99 vs 1.00

In the scheme of things, I have always preferred to trust my ears. If it sounds good, it IS good.
(Joe Meek)

But there again, I CAN see the point in this digital age of checking for digital overs, so I suppose it really comes down to having a quasi-accurate scale on a fader or a quasi-accurate red light that blinks on for overs.

Bemused is good! I didn't really mention 0.01 but 0.1 and perhaps it's got something to do with my butt. I'll ask later.

Thanks for all clarifications in the matter of dB decimals Maybe it will allow me to make better mixes. Frankly - I rather don't look at volume labels when I'm mixing. I only try to use my ears. dB scales are useful to me, hen I want to match some tracks levels (like multiple guitar rhytm tracks).

Anyway: Thanks. I will give closer look to volume labels
Luckily, changing those in Reaper is the matter of seconds.

I've tried lots of themes. They often look really good to me at first, but then I discover something about them that just doesn't quite work for me - either some minor functional difference or my eyes get tired after an hour or so - and I end up going back to the default. I even gave the much anticipated Reaborn a shot and it just wasn't for me.

I've found myself using VOX for several days, including a session of quite a few hours, and I haven't found anything about it that rubs me the wrong way. Combine that with the fact that I really like the look of it, and I think we have a winner. So nice job, man!

Great theme, thx...

but one little issue I have here (was in the original Rado theme as well):

The vertical meter in smallest height size looks in both themes like this:

It´s only a blinking light...
I like it better as a "normal" meter like this:

What do I have to change here???
