Default Melodyne standalone installation problem

Using Melodyne studio 4. It's working well as a VST. When I try to run it standalone, I get error:

First I tried a "repair" and then I uninstalled and reinstalled, and still no standalone. So I asked at Celemony. About 12 hours later they suggested and gave directions for a complete uninstall and reinstall. Quite thorough. I'll copy them below fyi.

I wrote back and asked about installing to non default locations, specifically avoiding my c: drive. They wrote back saying "We urgently recommend to install Melodyne on its default location due to different dependencies to avoid malfunction. Melodyne is NOT a usual VST plug-in like others."

Nevertheless, I persisted.

But I still get the identical error on standalone.

Melodyne vst showed up and loaded up in Reaper as expected (and will presumably work.)

I will try a default install. But does anyone have any experience with this?

Here's the uninstall info.

(if present) delete the folder Celemony in c:\program files(x86)\common files\VST3

In a second step:
please shutdown your computer
wait a few minutes and restart it again.
download a fresh installer of the latest version of Melodyne from your Celemony customer account here: http://www.celemony.com/cgi-bin/WebO...in?language=en
install Melodyne again with this newly downloaded installer
please start the Melodyne standalone application under c:\\program files\celemony

After another complete uninstall and another reinstallation using all the default settings, I get the identical error message when I try to run studio 4.2.4 in standalone mode.

The solution was to run the standalone exe in compatibility mode for Windows 7. I'm using 8.1 on this laptop.

Fast turnaround with Celemony support.
