Default MIDI Editor-- specific colors for pitches?

I'm unsure exactly how to do this... the whole note color map thing... (really confuses me).

I have a cool custom colormap that I like, but it would be more helpful for me if I could make the natural pitches fit my synesthesia.

Right now, the colormap shows "ROYGBIV" (the colors of the rainbow in order-- red, orange, yellow, green, etc...) which is fine for most people.

I would love C to be white... C# to be beige..
D to be green, D# to be dark green... etc.

Any way to easily do this? I don't need the light/dark variations for velocity.. just want a specific color.

Let me know if and how to do this, thank you!

Regardless of octave, yes!

Okay.

Have a look at this:-

Which is found here, where there is quite indepth conversation about this topic:-

I think that it is more fiddly than complicated. But what you are asking for should be achievable.

Thanks, yeah... saw that thread. I'm just so confused about getting the gradients and whatnot. I'm not great with graphics stuff especially an image that small. I don't know. Just seems confusing even with the walkthrough!

I think the mistake you are making is with the gradient thing.

There are 128 pixels available and that, I think, covers the amount of MIDI notes across the range.

So all you have to do is draw your twelve 1px wide vertical lines, one for each note value, and then copy those across the full range. One line at a time... Do not use any gradient creation tool.

If it was me I would use Gimp, which is free.

Give it a bash and let me know how you get on.

I figured it out before I saw your post.. I opened one of the colormaps in my image editor... zoomed in on the top left corner... those vertical lines on the left side are the pitches as you said. Colored each 1px line to my preference, saved it as another name (.png), and loaded it in Preferences... works great. Thanks!

Ah, right, I think I misunderstood a little bit of that then. I didn't realise it was that bit to one side.

I am glad that you got it sorted anyway
