Default "Audacity" editing window stopped working

Hi! I finally purchased the newest version of REAPER last week, but now when I do a voiceover, I used to be able to double click of my recorded track to bring up Audacity, but Audacity editor window no longer pops upeven tho external editors in "options/preferences still shows Audacity to be my primary default. Instead a window saying "Media Item properties 01-120102_2036.WAV" and it also has Item linebase track/projecy default linebase," whatever this window is about I don't know! Is these a way to get Audacity back as editor, is it compatable with the new version of REAPER? Better yet, is there a better editing program that is user friendly? I appreciate your help!
