Default Using Samples with Virtual Midi Keyboard

Just learning the basics at the moment, but wanted to ask how you can use samples with the Virtual Midi Keyboard. In FL Studio you can simply drop a sample onto the sequencer, then use the Midi Keyboard to play different pitches of that sample but im not really sure how its done Reaper. Any help would be much appreciated.

Use Reasamplomatic2000 on the FX chain. Make sure it's set to change pitch (it's a drop-down). Then set the virtual keyboard as MIDI input on the track properties.
